The Farne Islands located off the Northumberland are a natural wildlife sanctuary and a major breeding ground for seabirds and grey seals. We went in June which is the peak Puffin for seeing them on the island. Saw loads of on and around the island as well as many other bird species. We were pre-warned to wear a hat or hoodie at this of year as Terns are also nesting at this of year and are very protective of their nests. As a result, you might get dive bombed. A lot of people took the opportunity to get video of this and others, the Tern just landed on their heads and chilled out🤣. Overall a fantastic experience to see the and I'll be going back again soon! Visited with my son, just amazing. If you like wildlife and its a must visit, especially when the chick's are starting to appear. Rangers are super helpful and really knowledgeable. Can't wait to visit again We took a trip around the Farne Islsnds, it took us around many of the islands, stopping to look at puffins, seals, kittiwakes and shags to name a few. We then sailed to the Lower Farne Isle - National Trust - where we landed and were able to see the seabirds up much closer. A fabulous place with the quaint chapel. We wore hats but didn't get dive bombed by trying to protect their young, but many had fledged. Lovely place, we went with Billy Shiel's boats. We first had to get a ticket from their kiosk on the harbour front and go to the neighbouring National Trust kiosk, and pay £15 per person to land on the Farne Islands. The National Trust staff told us that we needed to take a hat to stop the Terns dive bombing us. The took us round the outer Farne Islands, showing us seals, and shags. The then landed on inner Farne island, to the see the nesting Terns, and lots of different bird species. We were there for an hour, and took a picnic to pass the time. There were basic toilets on the island, and an information hut and picnic tables near the lighthouse. Love our visit to the Farne Isles, got up close to the cliffs to see the breeding birds. captain was very knowledgeable and told the history of the islands very well. What a wonderful place! The ride out, around and back from the islands was a delight from start to finish. Amazing to see all the bird life, and plenty of seals hanging out near the shore when we got out at Longstone - Grace Darling's lighthouse home. Perfect day, saw a million a a half puffins, seal, a variety of Gulls... got attacked by nesting birds... the most beautiful bird sanctuary in the UK We booked a trip with Billy Shiels company. We were a party of 3 adults and 6 kids, one child is disabled. The staff were fantastic. They gave information regarding things we were seeing. Learned about Grace Darling and the lighthouse. Children had a great time. Sailings at all different hours with different durations available. No snacks or drinks available to purchase on the if there was we would have purchased a decent amount. We had a great we had travelled from Glasgow to seahouses and all of us had a great day. Will be back again. Visited in early July and had an absolutely unforgettable experience! The trip was smooth and well-organized, with knowledgeable and friendly guides who truly care about nature. On the way to the islands, I was incredibly lucky to see a pod of dolphins swimming alongside our – pure magic! Also, fair warning: I got pooped on by not once, but twice!
