To enjoy ice cream, people and view Five of us decided to enjoy an ice and a drink at Gelateria Calchera one summer day. However, the mood quickly began to deteriorate as soon as we placed our order with a clearly grumpy man behind the counter. There was no warmth or smile to be found - only irritation. After ordering, we sat down at an empty table outside. About half of the tables were occupied, so there was plenty of room. However, shortly afterwards we were asked to leave - much to our surprise. The reason? We hadn't sat down first and waited for a waiter to come and take our order. We were ‘takeaway customers’ and they are not allowed to use the chairs, even though we had bought both ice-cream and drinks and just wanted to sit and enjoy it for a moment. This rigid and unfriendly treatment of guests created an unpleasant experience. This might be understandable if the place was full to the brim - but it was far from it. The ice cream? It was ok. Nothing special, but not bad either. Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed the whole experience. Overall rating: A place with potential, but a complete lack of hospitality and flexibility is a huge drag. A great place to go for ice cream, they have a great selection and a good menu, we go here for an ice lunch, Ice was delicious and the price was fair. But the owner was impatient with my kids ordering with no one waiting and ignored my daughter's order giving her chocolate instead of yoghurt. Totally unnecessary. I'll add a couple of lines in response to the reply below. We went back to the shop a couple of times and each time everything was fine and the ice continued to be delicious, so yes perhaps it was a bad day for the owner. But still on reflection, I don't think this provides an excuse for being rude to kids - they're kind of part of the deal when you sell ice cream. Loading up one cone with two scoops of the same flavour and then criticising an 11 yr old boy for not making his order fast enough is just not acceptable behaviour for someone working with the public and especially kids. So you can provide all the reasons in the world, but it was still an unpleasant experience for my kids and through no fault of their own. And that deserves to be highlighted in a review. To start talking about selfishness and a lack of humanity in response just shows a complete inability to accept criticism, or take responsibility for actions. For €3 you can get a very big scoop of tasty ice cream. The staff is kind and helpful, however, it's not allowed to sit outside with your ice cream. The ice was amazing, especially when you have this beautiful view right outside. Son wants to recommend the Nutella flavor. Unbelievable.!!! We were with the baby, bought ice and the unpleasant staff kicked us off the terrace. There was only one table occupied on the terrace! We ate our ice on the floor. Never again!!
