Our family was on holiday in this area and looking for a place to have dinner. We came across this spot and ordered small-sized and chips. The service was quick, but we had to wait a bit longer for the order to be ready. They didn’t ask whether we wanted to dine in or take away and gave us takeaway packaging. There were a few tables and chairs available, so we decided to eat there. However, since the food wasn’t served in a proper food box but just in a paper bag, it was a bit difficult for us to eat. The portions were quite large for us as Asians. The taste was good, and the batter was crispy. The price was affordable. Excellent value for money. So fresh as all cooked to order. Huge portion sizes. I think this should have a food rating of 5 stars. Helpful and respectful staff. I am happy to recommend it to others. Our first trip to the Island and hungry for food we followed our noses to this excellent chip shop. Under new management it is immaculately clean with plenty of seating for eating in. The staff are all freindly the food is delicious with generous portions at a reasonable price. Would 100% recommend and look forward to our next visit Great traditional and chips. Light crispy batter , excellent quality and the are how chippy should be. Only downside was the pea fritter, it was more like a pea puree. Extensive menu, can't wait to return and sample the baked bean fritter. We ordered for 9 people including 1 Gluten Free. Georgina was really helpful and gave us a time to come back to collect. and were great. Will return and would recommend! HAPPY HADDOCK SANDOWN Tuesday 16/09/2025 definitely the worst value for money on the island the was a tiny piece of ???? Whatever it was I took it to the beach to eat it I wondered why she had put it in 2 heavy paper bags well the oil had run out of the first one into the second one obviously the oil wasn't hot enough and the poor tiny was saturated in spent oil I was going to try it but it was to oily so I know you have reviews but they obviously didn't get offered what you gave me £9 for a tin of pepsi max so the tiny was £7.60 I just had to take it back and as soon as I went to the counter she opened the till I didn't take my money back it wasn't about the money , I had a chip shop a few year's back and I would have taken small bits of like that at the end of the night or took it home to my dog 9 times out of ten I put it in with someone's because that's what you do at home in Northern Ireland so if you own the happy Haddock and are expecting a living out of it you would need your last meal of the day to be as as your first meal of the day or was it Didn't break the bank, had battered sausage and chips, delicious! Took me back to how they should taste! Had to wait a few minutes which is no bother,in fact, reassuring to see they were popular the orders were flying out! Will definately be back 😜 dehydrated, shriveled, chewie & reheated. Old cooking oil! The large cod was a bit dry and greasy. Lovely curry sauce. Visited once before about 4 years ago and the & were inedible! Heard better reviews so I thought I would give The Happy Haddock a another ago. But very disappointed again. I visited about 5.30pm.on a Saturday night several people dining in & several in the queue to order. Definitely won't be visiting again. Perhaps a visit to some other & chip shops might be a idea because this was a very poor meal.
