I arrived at a local village (very road weary) and stopped to check the booking in case I needed to purchase anything (such as food). At this point I found hidden away (unlike other booking agents that make very clear and obvious) that I needed to phone the establishment before arriving. I was not unduly concerned as I still had to walk for 30 minutes and the information stated that there was a reception open from early to late. I phoned and at first we struggled with my appalling Italian and her great efforts in English. However very quickly she said that I had no booking and they don’t use hotel.com End of conversation, go away I phoned hotel.com, very hard work and took three calls before I eventually was through. At this point I realised that I had my own problem! My battery was down to 20%😬. My call had been transferred to An Indian call centre and the gentleman could not understand that A. This was urgent as he wanted to just email the and this would be ok! I eventually convinced him to phone. B. He was absolutely totally unable to understand that my battery was low and consequently (very fortuitously) when all was dealt with I had only 1% battery power left. When he came back he said it was resolved and part of the problem was that they (hotel.com) don’t tell their clients this name but another trading name (Expedia). So I phone the back and she now agrees that I have a booking but—— the establishments reception is miles away!!! And no one can be there until 5pm. I was tired, I needed to change, wash my clothes and self, eat, make bookings for the following day somewhere and rest!! I arrived at the establishment which appeared to be abandoned and waited. Eventually an old man and his son materialised, he gave every impression of be the house maintenance tried his best to be very helpful and showed me to a room. Sadly the was a greatly inferior to that which I had booked. After conversation he said that he could do nothing and I would have to wait until a senior member arrived later any discuss with her. I waited! She arrived and was not happy to change my but she did. I still thought that it was not the correct but it was good enough and I needed to rest. All that aside 😂. The place is rustically charming nestled in the hills and the was fine, the two staff were very pleasant and helpful, the food was excellent traditional Italian fare with excellent local wine all served under the stars, what could better. Yes I probably would return and maybe give four stars🤔. (Camper friendly, beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Owners are very very friendly. Try the pizza's here you will be more than satisfied, absolutely delisioso 👍👍👍)... former owners Opens tomorrow 5/8/2022 with new owners but apparently they are not keen on campers on there property........note to new owner: Not a great way to start a new business sins most of us like to enjoy a nice evening dinner. It's like refusing free money 🤷 Very nice place, the food is very very good and the owners where very welcoming. The only issue i can see is the bad internet connection, but if you are from EU like me you can use 4G so it is not that bad. We had a great stay and awesome food at Ostello Il Gruccione! The pizza is one of the best I've had in Italy so far. The terrace is perfect to relax after a day of cycling or walking. Furthermore, it's locally owned and run by very sweet people! Passed by for a coffee. Welcoming, high quality products, a little oasis of peace Great Hostel in a gorgeous location run by a beautiful family. Expansive menu with a lovely range of delicious wines. Would go back again. Very friendly hosts and delicious pizza:) the surrounding landscape is beautiful! At our arrival in our motorhome it looked as if the place was closed. We loved the envorinment and decided to wait. The owner arrived and we were overwhelmed by her hospitality. She offered the indoor shower and electricity all for only €5. They have a restaurant and she offered to prepare pizzeria which we declined as we prepared our own food. The owner really tries her best in English and gave interesting facts about the environment. We really had the best stay on our trip. this is a real wonderful place with real nice people. the pizza was the best i ate since many years! the people who write bad things about the wonderful garden have no idea about nature. i loved to camp here with my girlfriend and will always remember this beautyful place, not only because of her.
