I'd recommend taking the steps unless you really want to ride the chairlift, as the latter isn't cheap and there can be quite a queue for the lift. The Needles Landmark Attraction offers gift shops, cafés and family friendly amusements - very commercialised, but it seemed well run as these places go. Parking was £6 for the day when I visited in August 2024. There's enough to see at Alum Bay and the nearby National Trust - Needles Battery to fill a good few hours. Positive points coloured cliffs, the needles, chair lift and little glass vials of sand the kids can fill. Down sides , the yell barrier tape around sand doesn't make for good pictures. Don't understand the rip off parking charge as we were ushered to a field and charged £6 even though we only wanted to stay a couple of hours. NT members get 20% off although its not advertised and parking is free later on in the afternoon. Also avoid the money sucking arcades. Its a shame if it didn't feel like such a rip off then it would be a much better attraction. We came on probably one of the windiest days of the week but it didn't deter us. Spent a good hour walking along the pebbles, which you'll struggle to walk on properly unless you've got decent shoes on. The beautiful colours of the are definitely worth taking a trip down on the chair lift for. We got there fairly early so there wasn't a lot of people there at that time either which made the experience more pleasant. The experience of walking on this pebble left me a special memory, especially when you running. For the view, both white and colorful are beautiful, and the sea ocean is tranquil. We arrived at here around dusk, the needles cruise and the chair lift are both closed. They seem very joyful. Very stony beach, not too busy on a sunny hot day in August. Recommend the boat trip to see the needles lighthouse. The boat isn’t so rocky when it’s on the go. Don’t recommend the chairlift. It’s very short and not worth of money. We did one way trip uphill as it’s easier to walk down. Definitely not worth of return trip. The walk down is very short and don’t involve many steps.
