We had the pleasure of eating here on the off chance on route to our accommodation in Looe. Was impressed enough to return a few days later. On both occasions the traditional menu was cooked to perfection. I would especially recommend the Steak, Fish & chips, Hunters Chicken and the Scampi dishes. All cooked fresh, to order, with no long waiting period and all dishes arriving together. The Landlady Kirsty, waitress Tracey and young Chef Chloe(?) were all extremely skilled at their respective roles and very welcoming and friendly. No request was too much. The setting is 'cosy' as part date back to 15th Century, so don't expect mid cons, but rather lots of wood and cushions. I would happily eat there every evening, but would have to size up my dress size at the end of my holiday!! Although, we did not have room for desserts, I hear the Brownies are lush. So if you are anywhere nearby, give them a chance to impress you. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Excellent country pub and restaurant. We were made very welcome and the pub food was good. Excellent service. Would have gone again but sadly our holiday was over. Excellent Mothers day 3 course meals for £28. We had Fucciacie bread, brie, with a side of prawns for £8. Beef, Pork roasts, followed with brownies and ice cream. was steady, and polite. My only moan, roast potatoes were hard, but highly recommend, food was of a high standard. A great village pub comfy room and a great breakfast atmosphere were amazing evan dropped us to tunes in the park nothing was to much trouble would highly recommend 5 star We had a fantastic meal at the Half Way house. Much better value than other higher rated pubs in the area. People in the bar beforehand were real as well. DO NOT GO HERE! Totally shambolic and awful service. Booked a table at noon for days ago. Arrived just before midday and ordered 2 roasts straight away. We were the first and only customers waiting for food but we were still waiting over 30mins before we gave up and left. No one warned us of any delays nor did anyone apologise when we left. It was a very dark and dingy pub and it was freezing cold in the lounge. Before we left 2 more bookings arrived but there was no one else there for which probably says everything you need to know. 3 tables at Sunday prime time says the place is a load of rubbish and I can confirm that. I will never be setting foot in this pub again and living in St Germans I will be warning all of locals NOT to go. Bad customer service, they even charged us for the drinks we had. Horrendous place. I stopped at the Halfway House for Sunday lunch, and I was not disappointed! The calamari was melt in the mouth, the roast pork was sumptuous, and the pud delicious! All for £27 and it was well worth it. I shall most definitely go again. The atmosphere was welcoming and most friendly! This is a nice small pub with welcoming, staff. We popped in for an early evening meal, we were asked if we would prefer to sit in the bar as it would be quieter. Having a hearing impairment, this was very thoughtful and much appreciated. The were really attentive and fun, our food arrived in reasonable time, we weren't in any hurry. Unfortunately, the standard of the food did let the place down. My cheese and bacon burger was cremated to the degree that is was burnt solid on the outside (I'm sure burger's are not meant to be crunchy!) a shame, as it looked home made so should have tasted good. My wife had a chicken a leek pie served with vegetables. It was a good size portion but, didn't taste great. They advertise special 'pie' evenings, so you might expect maybe homemade or at least advertising locally made. A nice place to pop in for a drink, maybe we just had an off day with the food? Lovely really welcoming and couldn't be any better with our 20 month old toddler of terror. They even brought his food out first so he could start cooling it without us asking! Lovely place The where so and welcoming and the food was out of this world, will definitely be returning, big shout out to Kerry our waitress who was absolutely brilliant! Thank you guys for a wonderful evening. Came in for a bite to eat for on a wet Wednesday in February Food was lovely not a microwave in sight good value for money Will definitely call again Booked for some days in advance arrived at noon the arranged time . Waited over 30 minutes still not served told it was being plated up by 2 members of but felt I waited long enough. I live locally and I am sad to say I'll never visit this place again. The weren't helpful no advanced warning meals would be delayed.we left and they even charged me for my half pint instead of waiving same. Beware of this pub if you want a Sunday served in a reasonable time. Should add we were the first customers and the pub was not very busy. Absolutely brilliant place. Went for a family meal on Saturday and the food, and ambiance was superb. This is a ‘proper’ pub- not a chain or something pretending to be something else. The are brilliant and and could not do more to help. Menu is varied and full of local delights and very reasonably priced. If you come here expecting ‘chain pub’ food and you probably may need to go to one of those… here you get great service, great banter from the locals, locally sourced freshly cooked food. Its family run and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
