A lovely cafe / bistro along the Bude Canal. A good choice of food on the menu with Breakfast, Lunch and Cream Teas. Great views over the lake and trees. Whenever we visit Bude we always try to squeeze in a canal coastal loop walk with a pit stop at The Weir. The Full weir breakfast is not to be underestimated, and is always a good offering of local food. Staff are always friendly and service is always quick. Recommended Quick Pitstop after a rainy walk along the canal in Bude. Lovely coffee (Flat White and a latte). Flapjack was tasty and moist, generous portion too. We've been coming to the Weir for quite a few years but have to say this time we were disappointed. Not so much in the food (we just had breakfast on the first day, didn't manage to actually get anything after that) but their new system of table service is pretty chaotic. You can no longer order at the till (apparently the kitchen was getting overwhelmed) so you have to wait to be seated and someone serves you. So even if you just want a coffee you end up in the 'system' which was taking around 15-20 minutes for hot drinks to come out. The second time we visited, there was no space inside so were given menus to take outside and told someone would be over to take our order (we did ask if we could just order at the till, but told no, table service only). We waited around 15 minutes but no one ever came, the people next to us had been there longer, so gave up and walked back to Bude, hungry and thirsty. Before leaving I did pop inside to say to the staff member that it was a shame that no one had even come out to us, she said they were just so short staffed, she had no one to send. I don't blame the staff on the floor, they worked really hard but the management seem to have introduced a system they can't actually make work in practice. For people wanting just a hot drink or cake, it seems crazy to have to wait so long, they must be losing a lot of business. Also, not going up to the counter, you don't see the cakes and get tempted by something you wouldn't have otherwise ordered - so again, lost business for the Weir! Really hope they rethink what they're doing. A picture says 1,000 words. I prefer my burger cooked, not just raw cold mince on my bun. Felt sick for the rest of the day, yes we got a refund but until you get a chef that can cook - you should not be allowed to serve food. The Weir very kindly accommodated us with having our wedding there. Not only were we able to have a fantastic reception there, we were also able to say our vows in front of the beautiful lake. It was a beautiful evening. They provided a BBQ buffet with steaks, burgers and salads and the food was really good. The drinks were at a very good price as well. Their service on the evening was amazing. Thank you to The Weir for hosting an evening we will never forget! 20 minute wait for drinks and 30 minutes wait for food is just not good enough.Nowhere enough chairs to suit the outside tables. Need to up their game to meet demand midday to 3pm. Photos taken after many people have left. A lovely beautiful tranquil place and suitable for the whole family. After a walk down the canal we stumbled upon the Weir and was so glad we did! It has a lovely playground for the children, the food was delicious, the service friendly and the coffee Fantastic too. The view was beautiful. I would highly recommend. We are looking forward to coming back here next week and the children can't wait.
