Lovely nature reserve, great hides, though be better with roofs on! Plenty of birds about and easy walk to the coast path The Lagoons in Musselburgh are a great retreat for birdwatchers and walkers alike. The area is within easy reach by foot or by bike from Musselburgh. There are seats available in various locations and three good hides, no roof though so bear this in mind if a slightly damp day! Most dog walkers i saw had their dogs on leads, but a few unfortunately let them run wild which was not great for wildlife or other people trying to enjoy the outdoors and area. There is also parking in various locations, if parking right beside the Lagoons, the road in does have a fair few holes, bumps and a gravel road so may be easier walking or cycling from Musselburgh or other local car parks. Great place to see geese and lapwing, will be back in autumn as it imagine there will be hundreds more birds then. Signage could be a little better but other than that it is a lovely quiet place to go I like this place, but don't expect much attractions. It's a great place for bird watching and simply walking. At the Boating lake there is a picking table. Nice walking spot but if you bring dogs with you, please make sure they are on lead all the time, as this place is important for birds and other wildlife. Also the grit road to the parking was very very bumpy after some rainy days. A little gem of a nature park next to the John Muir way, was a lovely sunny day and pretty quiet, mainly dog walkers, plenty trails to wander around. A nice place to visit. Green and clean place by the sea, you can see a lot of birds. There is a bird watching hide out as well. You will find people paddling on the lake or having a picnic. There is a small car park, no toilets though. Lovely to walk or cycle. This is a lovely place, but getting to the carpark was horrendous. There were so many potholes down the driveway, and it took over 5mins to get to carpark, when you would assume it would take less than a minute, if flat. It states 5mph speed limit, but could only manage 1mph. If we came again, we would definitely park somewhere else. A large pleasant area to explore, open areas and small woodland. Suitable for all ages, dog walkers and particularly Birders. The lagoons attract all sorts of birds and there are roofless bird hides too offering some protection from the elements. Some paths are good, others are mown grass. A few more signs would be helpful for the irregular visitors. Quite close to the promenade walk with lovely views out to the sea.
