Provided the flood defence gates are open, you can along a kind of concrete causeway, with spectacular views of rhe Severn Bridge all the way across the river. There are free (up to five hour) parking spaces before you reach the gate. If you continue walking towards the bridge, the concrete causeway fives wy to a rough surface the gets rocky, and sometimes soggy. Beautiful on a clear summer's evening. We aren't experts but managed to find a few interesting looking rocks. Think its worth coming when it's low tide and early in the day before the rush. Alternative along the offbeat old path past the now defunct car ferry ramp.. These cliffs below the first severn bridge can contain many small fossils.. But beware, there can be often new rock fall especially is raining. A quiet place with magnificent views across to both seven bridges. Flat and easy walking. Watch the tides they are very fast, and take you walking boots it can be muddy. We went here today for the first time , it was raining and cold , and we had a tyre blowout on the way . But we made memories with our son ....... so it was worth it . Plus we went to severn beach Really interesting place. Old ferrylanding remains and then a "beach". Not for swimming but good for fossil hunting. Parking is on the street then thru wooden gates. No facilities at all but Aust motorway services is only 5 minutes away for loos and food. Great views Brilliant spot away from everything. The access in is perfect for wheelchair access and you can go right up to the beach. The beach is really rocky so I wouldn’t advise going further. If you’re walking or looking to loop round you can get under the old bridge, it is a bit of a scramble but passable. This place is excellent for fossils. The shells you find over the beach are from the Carboniferous. If you are looking for the Triassic fossils, they are in greyish rocks, with small black stones embedded. These black stones are actually coprolites, which is fossilised excrement. 化石取りに行った。骨の化石よ歯の化石が主にある。ロンドンから行くのは、バスでBristolのコーチステーションまで行って、そこから電車でセバーン・ビーチ駅まで行く。その後駅から1時間30分(ノンストップ・10分/kmのペース)歩きまくる。 脚が筋肉痛になり虚無に襲われる。 でも化石はよく見つかる。Bone Bed(骨がたくさん入っている石)は色が特徴的。少し黄色がかったような、、なので赤い石とかには何も入ってない(むしろ赤い石はクオーツが多い) 石さえ判断できるようになれば、糞の化石とかも見つけられる。 ただし、骨や糞の化石は、基本的に橋の奥にある。満潮でないタイミングで、橋の下を歩く必要あり。ベチャベチャな粘土質。10cmくらい沈んだりするので、長靴は必須。橋の上や土手からは行けないらしい。現地の人曰く橋の手前はあまりに有名で取られまくって無くなったとか。 Bit muddy but nice walk, don't take your elderly father and post bunion op sister as not great terrain for them.
