I used the electric shuttle bus for the first time. No extra charge. You can summon it to one of the stops by calling the number shown on rhe sign at each stop. When I did that, the bus arrived in a couple of minutes. The shuttle is intended mainly for those who need it rather than those who just want a ride. It stops at the area near the gift shop, the house, and the kitchen garden/pavilions cafe area. A beautiful place to spend the day on any season. The had limited rooms open for a Sunday in November but every room was filled with interesting things to see. The were showing autumn colours and were a sight to see. The cafe was busy and noisy but seats could be found. I have been a couple of times before and look forward to coming back. Beautiful house, recently acquired by the national trust in 2002 so it is quite new with its own furniture and carpets. The ceilings are magnificent as the church itself. It is on the top 15 of the national trust houses and it is worth a visit. The shop and restaurant are really big and they make you feel transported to other times. Great NT to in Somerset. It is a fantastic place to with plenty to see and take in. Expensive but there again, the National Trust seems to have 2 objectives these days: 1. make money, and 2. push wokeness at every opportunity. Despite that we visited this beautiful site on a lovely sunny day. The main and family chapel are amazing, and the team of gardeners does an excellent job maintaining the extensive grounds. It's a large site, and to fully appreciate it, you will do plenty of walking. The reception staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful (once they had extracted a huge sum from us to park and enter the site). The cafe was large but offered a fairly limited range of hot food (mostly jacket potatoes and soup), and we had to wait quite a while for the food to appear. We have been several times now and finally got to see inside the amazing The are pleasantly planted with a variety of trees and plant life that is well designed in their layout. The buildings are in a grand style including the outer garden buildings and a particularly delightful Orangery with actual citrus fruits growing in abundance. There are numerous places to wander around the and wooded areas. We visited in mid January so will look forward to returning later in the year when the shrubs and border planting is in bloom. Well worth a visit. This national trust site has charming, well kept and a very interesting house. It’s dog friendly on a short lead, with two cafes and lovely gardens. From different parts of the site you also get wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The volunteers were also very informative. Would definitely recommend a day out here! What a lovely place. As you'd expect from a large National Trust property, you'll find a lovely park, a grand house, a superb cafe and shop. Very pleasant walks around the estate, ending in a stupendous walled garden full of gorgeous produce. The is not to be missed, with its grand staircase, interiors and beautiful art. The family's history is fascinating. Make sure you ask the wonderful volunteers for more information in every room - despite the availability of information cards they will always tell you more fascinating facts and stories about the room exhibits, the family and the house. Definitely recommend We chose well .. Beautiful sunny day in April just before Easter .. Easy to park with an overflow carpark if needed. Didn't have to queue and receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The flowers, tulips especially, were absolutely magnificent, and all the garden areas are so well maintained. A very interesting place with a rose garden and a sawmill ... We also found the picnic area, perfect and right next to a play area for the younger ones ... Getting an ice cream from the little shop was a welcome bonus. All in all, we could have spent longer there, as there was so much to look at, but the sun beat us into submission ! The layout, the standard of workmanship, the woodwork, all of it. Yes, there is an 'upstairs/downstairs side to the place but them this is how and where it was at the time. Personally I feel our country, Creat Britain, is better for it. The house, the gardens, the facilities were/are most excellent. This place is incredible. Large and the is breathtaking. Friendly and knowledgeable volunteers guide you round the house. It’s well worth the visit.
