A great little place for a pit stop after conquering (aka climbing) the peak of Skirrid. Just a short walk (but no footpaths so suggest you drive the 70 or so yards) from the National Trust carpark. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating plus a fairly extensive menu which accommodates even the fussiest of vegetarians in our family. The toilet is disabled friendly and has a changing table, but you'll need to be a customer and ask behind the counter for the key. Dig the wind chimes!! I arrived at 2pm after hiking Skirrid Fawr, sadly to be told the kitchen had closed, which I felt was rather early for a tea room. This was a shame but I did have a takeaway coffee. The was so hot, I kid you not that it took 45 minutes for it to reach a ‘drinkable temperature’ sadly with the water being so hot it had left a horrible taste to coffee. For note for the lady serving coffee: Too cool (<195°F / <90°C) → under-extraction: sour, weak, or flat taste. Too hot (>205°F / >96°C) → over-extraction: bitter, astringent, harsh flavors. Just right (195–205°F / 90–96°C) → balanced oils, acids, and sugars for a full-bodied cup. And Yes my nickname is Goldilocks… unlikely to return. A hidden gem, with a warm welcome, good portions and nice food. Visited at lunch time and it was fairly busy but still plenty of space. Food was piping hot and good portion. We had chilli con corne, tikka masala with half rice and chips and kids fish stars chips and peas with three chocolate milkshakes....only complaint would be the milkshake, it needed ice cream in it 😋...seriously would highly recommend a visit. We stopped here for a on a scorching hot day and decided to make it an early lunch. I had a bacon, brie & cranberry sauce baguette, and my husband had a chicken, bacon & BBQ sauce baguette. Both came with crisps and a lovely side salad that included fresh fruit. The was nice, service was polite and friendly. We sat outside shaded by trees, and it was a thoroughly pleasant experience with an excellent lunch. Well what a beautiful place with amazing food and staff . A perfectly cooked full breakfast that was as tasty as it looked . Can’t wait to return to see Mike and Tracy and the other guys . Spotlessly clean , great parking and fabulous home made food. A huge thank you from us both For Your kindness and care . David & Sarah x Another fabulous lunch, they never disappoint. The best tuna mayo baked potato I've ever had! 👌 Delicious fresh crispy salad with sliced apple, grapes & cold cooked peas! 👍 Excellent service too. The lemon & poppy seed cake was superb too with delicate flavour & soft sponge 😍 First time visiting today. Beautiful little cafe in a lovely location. Food was top-notch, and the service was great. Clean, tidy, and friendly. It's a travesty that it's closing soon. Hopefully, they change their minds. Great place to stop for food and drinks, a large menu to suit all tastes. Nice rural setting not too far from Abergavenny. Large car park right next to cafe and clean toilets. Definitely worth a visit.
