Lovely charming old-fashioned country pub with really great food. Dog friendly whochnisnt great for me as I am allergic but they were not close. I did eat here 35+ years ago and it was a fantastic. Pleased to say it has kept its standards up Lovely pub lunch in the garden. Reasonably priced proper pub grub menu! All in under 40 for a couple. Great staff. What more could you ask for? Fantastic Traditional Pub just off the canal near bridge 62 Monmouth and Brecon canal. Warm welcome. Great Beer and Lots of reviews but disappointing for us. Fish cake option featured ONE fish cake immersed amongst a sea of chips, my BBQ chicken was ok but topped with overcooked bacon slice and a BBQ sauce not dissimilar to one of the Mcdonald's sachets. Fresh veg was nice and the Green King ale...Car park near to full at 5.30pm on a Thursday. This place does one of the best, wholesome Sunday roasts around. They don't try and do anything over the top or fancy, it's just a proper British Sunday roast. Home cooked, Good quality meats, plenty of veggies to go around. size Yorkshire puddings, very roast potatoes. There's always plenty of gravy and you can always ask for extra boats if needed. Good selection of beer on tap. If you want a home-cooked roast dinner, that is just that. This is the place to go. Great village pub. Dropped in one afternoon midweek, it was quiet and cosy. Called in at a similar time on a Friday, it was very busy with diners - so the food must be good. Fabulous place, great welcome and the food was amazing. We happened to book accommodation next door to the pub (oh, don't tell the missus, I may well have planned it more than she thinks!!) We certainly made use of the 'next door' facilities and we are already planning a return visit. Definitely worth a trip to check it out. The Beer was good, the food was not worth the money tho, and when I said to the waitress we are still waiting on our coffees after twenty minutes she said I’ve only got one pair of hands…. There was only one other couple there. Very poor response. Would not recommend or return to this pub. What a great pub! Stopped over for a night whilst travelling around in my campervan. For a pub tucked well out the way and on a Thursday afternoon/evening it was certainly well supported. Great value, decent food, lovely and a fantastic atmosphere. Loved it! We were on holiday here in goytre wharf and we walked up on the 2nd night to be approached with happiness and kindness from all staff. The food and atmosphere was second to none. We loved it that much we were due to go to another restuarnt for food but ended up walking the extra 20 mins to come to the starr instead. On the Sunday we got ourselves booked in for a sunday roast. All we can say is AMAZING! My son drew a picture and they put it up behind the bar. We will be back next year to check its still up 🤣 Thankyou to the starr inn fabulous all around. We had the pleasure of visiting this pub yesterday evening after a walk with our dog, we drove past and fancied a pint on a nice summers evening, we have a st bernard so wasn't too sure if they'd allow us inside (knowing how slobbery they can be), we were welcomed very warmly with all the saying hello to our beautiful boy and offering treats, service was great and we will be back to taste the food very soon! Thank you! We had an absolutely delightful experience at this charming pub today! The roast dinner was fabulous and the were exceptionally welcoming and friendly, making us feel right at home. After enjoying a lovely stroll along the canal from Goytre Wharf to get there, we were set for a very wet return leg in heavy rain. To our surprise, the kindly offered to drive us back to our car, going above and beyond. It’s gestures like these that truly make a visit special. We will definitely return. Went for mid week catch up and food.Had the 8oz steak,with Stilton sauce.First thing is that they are a price ,2nd the steak was really .But the sauce was amazing .Unlike other places it was a large pot of sauce ,which I still wiped clean with my chips.Really nice cozy place with nice atmosphere. Liked it and will returning for more food soon.
