Spot on place, served by the Jess whose enthusiasm and professionalism is an absolute credit to the Rankin . Food perfectly cooked you can tell chef and all female as food perfect . Will come again A country pub in the heart of Hoddesdon nr. Darwen, Blackburn. The outside area to the rear is great, lots of seating, some undercover, some in the sun. menu, I definitely recommend the Margarita pizza 🍕 decor inside as well. staff, will definitely be calling again. Saw some favourable reviews so decided to take a drive over one weekday afternoon and give the place a try. A car park out front with limited spaces. Can imagine this soon fills up at night and weekends. No designated disabled that I could see. Available spaces compromised due to a wagon doing a delivery to the pub. But someone was just leaving so we managed to get in the space they vacated. Access for wheelchair or disabled didn’t look feasible from this car park. Couple of fairly high stone steps up from car park to the pavement leading to the pub. Also a step up into the pub. Once inside it seemed ok with no steps that I could see. From other reviews it appears there is a car park as well around the back. However, cannot confirm that from this visit nor if there is better access for those whose mobility is compromised. Once inside I have to say first impressions were good. It was bright and open. Some of the pictures online don’t seem to do it justice. It was fairly busy. Lot of people eating. We were told we could have a table but would have to vacate it by three as a funeral group were booked in. We had around an hour and a half so thought that was ample. Once seated we ordered drinks and checked the menu. My brother ordered a pint of Moretti at £5.20. I got a pint of Lime and Soda with ice at £1.50. Very reasonable prices in todays climate and compared to other places we have recently visited. They had a selection with several dishes you don’t see on a lot of other pub menus. I ordered the Lamb Samosas to start with Chilli con Carne for my mains. My brother went for the home made meat pie with chips, mushy peas and gravy. My starter arrived about ten minutes after ordering. Full of lamb and very tasty. Crispy outer as well and piping hot. Chilli sauce had a nice kick to it but nothing overbearing. A starter but I do think at £5.99 for 3 samosas it was a little expensive. Mains took about 30 minutes to arrive from of ordering. Again piping hot. My brother said his pie was excellent but he wasn’t happy with his chips. He said they appeared to be burnt. I had to agree they did look a little overcooked but I thought they tasted great. Proper fresh chips. His other complaint was the amount of he got. He had about a dozen on his plate. Mine was half chips, half rice and I did have more that him. Please see the photos I have left. The Chilli was lovely. A bit of a kick to it but again nothing overpowering. So apart from the issue with the we both enjoyed our mains. Not the biggest portions but certainly adequate and at £12.95 each very value for money and very competitively priced with other establishments. We didn’t bother with dessert but I fancied a coffee. Didn’t see a menu so just asked the waitress what they had. Ordered a Cappuccino. It came with one sugar lump on the saucer which I found a bit strange. However, more were quickly brought over once I asked. The coffee was very nice. One of the better cups I have had recently. Unfortunately I cannot tell you how much it cost as it was only when I got home and checked the bill more closely I noticed it hadn’t been included. Overall a positive dining experience. Food was very tasty. Prices for the food and drink reasonable and competitive although I still feel the starter was a little over priced. Didn’t have much interaction with our servers. They seemed busy and perhaps a little pre occupied getting ready for the funeral group coming in. We were asked when we went to pay if everything was ok. Yes apart from my brothers chips. But I feel it’s always nice to be asked during the meal. In conclusion I would be happy to visit again if in the area and try some of the other dishes on the fairly diverse menu. place, would highly recommend the food was gorgeous and the were very welcoming and friendly.Prices are very good, their home cooked food is the best ive had at a pub/restaurant in a long time.10/10 from us,worth the drive over from Blackburn 👌 First eating here tonight. The food was superb. The waitress who looked after our very large party was outstanding. A consummate professional! beyond what I would expect from anywhere around here, and lovely, homely food that tasted superb. Busy tonight, but if my experience is anything to go by I’m not surprised. Will definitely be back. food, & a atmosphere. We had two roast dinners & a lasagne, perfect portion sizes & absolutely delicious. The chocolate fridge cake is to die for! Best place to eat in Lancashire, absolutely will definitely return again & again. Had dinner there today and ordered the gluten free roast beef dinner. It was the best ever. Came with gluten free yorkshire pudding cauliflower cheese and stuffing. Had the gluten free sticky toffee pudding and again was the best. My husband had the fish and and said they were really good. The are and polite and the was brilliant. place to visit. Never before has 1 pub ever been able to plz me my wife and 2 kids when out for a meal. This place did. The food is fantastic 4 separate dishes was loved by us all . The , the beer (gold) was unreal. 100% will visit again. Called in for lunch absolutely brilliant. Warm welcome professional food second to none atmosphere menu. Will definitely be going again. Thank you food & though one of our chairs was soaking wet & the member of our group had to go home to change their soaked clothing as the wet patch was very noticeable & uncomfortable which was a inconvenience. This put a delay on when we could have our food served. The Landlady's solution of putting the wet clothes in the Dryer and offering a dressing gown to be worn was not ideal! Came here yesterday for lunch with my friend, we had planned to go blackburn but rovers were playing for we thought we would come here as the Google reviews were good. The food was really nice I love the homemade it's so rare to find a place that doesn't use frozen these days. The biscoff cheese cake was amazing. All the were extremely and polite. The Halloween decorations were brilliant aswell effort made. Will definitely be back First here last week. Food was delicious and reasonable price. Has the special surf and turf and ice cream for dessert. Would recommend 😀 My son and I have been coming weekly for the food, and ales. Highly recommend it, real home cooked food, from Wendy, Nick and the team. Been to the Rankin now a few times so i thought it was about i wrote a review because this place knocks spots off alot of other pubs in the area for food, & value! We love this place. Today 4 of us dined, i had Mince & Onion pie with chips, wife had roast beef dinner, my mother had the same and my son had kids chicken goujons and chips. I had a pudding after (cos im a Bat Fastard) plus id never had ine from The Rankin of Sticky Toffee pudding and OH MY DAYS! It was easily the best ive ever had my a mile! (Pic attached) We all left with full bellies and not feeling robbed as this food is well worth more than what they charge in terms of the quality. We will be back again very soon!! Brilliant atmosphere, we come here often. The are always attentive. The food delicious ( They even present my burger on a plate!!!) I hate gadgets.😄🛒🛒 The tribute acts are brilliant too.. The owners should be so proud. environment place, food, if I could give it a 10 out of 10 I would. 4.5 ⭐️ if you’re looking for cozy pub vibes with fantastic food, this is the place! the food at the ranken arms was simply put, delicious and the five other people i was with also thought so. the comfy cosy atmosphere certainly added to the experience and overall made it fantastic. the slight problem that makes it impossible to give it a 5 is that my roast potatoes were still hard in the middle but i think i just got unlucky with this as the other people with the potatoes had no problem🫠🫠 The place is very nice and the atmosphere is lovely. Staff was very and the food was delicious. We went over for some lunch 1st and we will definitely come back. The place is also dog and it’s to see them having a too. 👌 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ pub, foods always very along with the service.
