Interesting but limited. We found this place on Google while we along the way back home so we were stopped and walk to explore! Really nice to see a Roman bridge, or what remains of the stonework anyway. I don't think it requires much imagination to see how big it could have been. 2nd Visit 28th August 2024 - 4 Stars We went back to try again and then followed it by an amazing meal at the George down the road. This time it was a totally different experience. These are the ruins but there are a lot of them and you can imagine the hustle and bustle of those using it to cross the River Tees. I liked it and would recommend a visit if you are in to that kind of thing which I am. And do not forget about the George pub and I recommend the 'Cow Pig' Burger oh my word topped with pulled pork. Incredible. 1st Visit 5th August 2024 - 2 Stars 2 Stars purely because we followed the brown tourist signs from the road showing "Roman Bridge" while on a buzz on the way back to Darlington from visiting the Winston "Spitfire" up the road. Not the best signage and not only ourselves but another couple were confused as much as we were. To be honest, if i had Googled it, we would have found it in hindsight. It's one to return to now we have more information. The we crossed is obviously old, but not Roman and is a short distance from where we should have been over the passed the pub on your left and further along to a decent sized car park. Parking at the George for the Roman is free, but watch out it's a very bumpy travel car park with big pot holes. Sort walk to the bridge. Worth a stop to see the remains. Not a whole lot to see but it's cool and there is a fort across the river, nice area to walk around, parked at the George pub inn Had a quick visit to find that the river had moved a fair bit since our Roman brothers were here. You can see it was a though.Worth a look. Very interesting site to visit. Would recommend anyone interested in history. Cool demonstration of Roman engineering, as seen on time team. Cool spot to see and thinking about the people who crossed here and were they came from. This Roman is a nice addition to the fort. To find out more about the area watch the Time Team season 17 episode 3. I fell across this little bit of history whilst I was in the area recently. It's interesting to see and there's an info board telling you about it. Not a great deal left to see but still interesting to see how it was constructed Great little stop on our journey. Really well looked after If you're staying close by or just pasding through it's amazing as a short stop. Lovely field, well kept, interesting site to stumble across, does require imagination whilst there! Worth a quick visit though as is the nearby fort Nice little bit of local Roman history right on my doorstep that until watching a time team on YouTube today I never knew about haha Pretty cool to see the the fallen remains of the and it's fascinating to see where the river once was and how far it's moved over the centuries Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
