Love coming here, such a peaceful setting and the locally sourced food is full of flavour and always good. It's nice to sit outside on the sunny terrace. Went here with my mum for a spontaneous lunch. Positives ;- * Nice size with a amount of options * clean, bright with a airy atmosphere * tables well spaced so didn’t feel crowded * my lunch was super yummy and although to my greedy eyes thinking the portion was small it was actually just right. * pudding was equally tasty and well balanced in flavour, the food here was top notch 👌🏻 also at £6.50 better value than other places I had dined that week. * happy to split the bill. Negatives; * The prices for the main items were on the higher side. (Although to give them there due the drinks were standard price for Dorset and the pudding a little less that other places I had eaten in that week) * The staff although polite did seem in a rush, maybe they were short staffed that day, but I did take a bit of effort to catch someone’s eye. * Since I was last visited they have extended the amount of covers they can do and if it was any busy than it was that day I would have found it rather noisy (as I’m hard of hearing). The service here is very with the team working hard. Special shout out to Niamh who did a great job of service recovery. The setting is lovely too but the food is underwhelming. The pancakes contained cinnamon but did not say and one of our party does not like cinnamon but the didn't say that (good job it was not an allergy!) The full English was ok but nothing amazing Wow fantastic gluten- free food! The staff were really helpful and showed me clearly on the what I could have gluten-free! I booked in advance and wrote on the reservation about my intolerances - so they were already prepared on my arrival! I felt so m looked after here. The fish and chips was HUGE! I couldn’t eat it all but I wish I had a bigger stomach as it was so delicious! We also had bread and dips for starters - yum! More expensive than some other places, but the food was presented so beautiful and portion sizes so we didn’t mind too much as a treat! Already recommended this place to family who have visited since! The toilets were also really clean and accessible, which was lovely and great for someone like me with IBS who feels more comfortable knowing they’re available to customers if needed! Unsure if this place is celiac safe so probably best to ring up and check ahead for this. Can’t wait to come back again! Last visited: May 2025 (this is when the photo was taken) Absolutely charming. Waited service throughout. Lovely food at a very reasonable price. Friendly and attentive waitress. With fine weather, we sat outside in the courtyard, well sheltered. The inside seating looked equally comfortable and inviting. The toilets were clean and well maintained. Afterwards, a look around the shops; classy and offering something different. I just really enjoyed it. The photo shows Colmers Hill from where I was sitting - can't be bad! We specially planned a stop at Symondsbury as we visited last year and loved the experience of having in this beautiful place. This year we were with my partner's child who is autistic. He was struggling with focusing and we knew we might have to go quickly if he started to lose control of his emotions (yes it happens and no it's not bad manners, it's anxiety in a child's brain). We got in (15 mm late but had called to explain why and not lose our table), a little bit stressed because of the traffic on the road and were told that there was a long wait for as there was a big group of 20 to cater for. I asked if there was any chance that we could just order bacon brioche rolls and explained why (child with special needs). I was told in a friendly way that no, there was nothing they could do to help we would have to wait, that everyone else had already ordered and that they would have to be served first before they could take other orders. So we ordered take away coffee and pastry to go. While we were waiting for our "fast" order, the table next to us that has ordered 5 minutes before us (not exaggerating), got their hot served and more hot food came through the kitchen. It felt that we just weren't the right type of customers and that our stressed child was not welcome. He was very quiet and didn't throw a tantrum by the way, we as exhausted/stressed parents were just hopeful that we would be able to have a nice like we enjoyed last year. A simple "I will check what we can do for you" or even "let me give give you some water while I will confirm the waiting time so that you can decide what works for you" would have made all the difference. The lady who served us was really courteous but it was really clear that having a child with special needs did not justify any sort of "extra" human empathy. It's all the little things that can make the difference between feeling like fighting the world all the time on our own and feeling part of a world that can make tiny adjustments (checking actual wait time, giving a glass of water, showing empathy) to make us feel a bit less lonely in that fight. Buzzy atmosphere and staff were helpful and happy. 5 of us arrived for having pre booked and it was already busy. Lovely setting. Great but my one gripe, please do some other bread other than sour dough! Not everyone finds it palatable or can tolerate it which makes the limited! Sour dough seems to have become trendy, but it has its limitations. Why can't restaurants do a lovely fresh crusty loaf? We enjoyed what we had, nice quality ingredients. I've been coming here for a long time. The setting and service always very however of late the food not so good. I ordered the pancakes with fruit and yoghurt for breakfast. What I got were 3 decent pancakes with what looked like 2 ice cream scoops of yoghurt, a measly dribble of honey on the plate and (wish I'd taken a photo) maybe 8 berries dotted around the plate. It was very poor. Recently I ordered the toast with marmalade. I got two already buttered pieces of sourdough toast with a splodge of marmalade on the side. When I go out and order something as simple as toast I would expect an element of presentation. I would want to butter my own toast and have the marmalade in a ramekin at least. Come on symondsbury you have and can do better than this. Staff always excellent and happy to serve.
