Incredible golf course, facility and staff. By far the most authentic and enjoyable top tier course on the north coast. The 9 Hole bann course right by the coast is an incredible challenge for any golfers as well. Highly reccomend playing all 27 holes. Guinness pour in the clubhouse with amazing views over the 18th. Perhaps our favorite course in the Portrush area. Challenging but fair layout, views, and conditions. A fantastic links course, well worth the trip. Bert and the team are excellent. The course is a test, lovely greens and very well kept. Superb par 3's and beautiful views. Highly recommended. It could be considered a "hidden gem" tucked in beside Portrush and Portstewart, but it punches well above it's weight! Myself and a group of friends attended a ladies afternoon tea here and it was stunning. The staff were fantastic and the food was and very well presented. We had a lovely afternoon and would 100% attend another one if it was put on. Played a round of 18 here on the Thursday evening of the open week. The whole experience was great. Staff in the pro shop were at welcoming us to the club. The Caddie master was taking us over to the practice range giving us a bit of chat about the club. The clubhouse and bar staff were incredible with the bar being open late. We teed off at around 5:30 so were not back to the clubhouse late and they still were serving with a smile. The course its self is fantastic, the views over the coast are amazing stunning. The final 3 holes on the front abs back 9 are incredible. Our only feeling was that we booked a 5:30pm tee time but with the pace of on the course we were very lucky to get round before the sun went down. Given the price of the round It would have been disappointing if we had to stop short of the final few holes 16/17/18 which are some of the best. Exceptional Course. Stand-out holes are 7, 8, 9, and 17 that are all as as any holes on any links. Very busy due to the open, but still very well looked after, and a fantastic pint of Guinness at the end! Ah, Castlerock Golf Club, where dreams of legendary links golf go to die somewhere between the 4th tee and a 35-minute wait on the tee box behind someone who’s just learned which end of the to hold playing off tees out of their remit. We arrived bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, having paid a small fortune for the privilege of playing. Unfortunately, the only thing they didn’t do with that money was actually log our booking. Small detail, really, just the entire reason we travelled for 10 hours inclusive of a ferry there. Luckily, they managed to “squeeze us in” between two tee times which, as grateful we were to know the travel wasn’t all in vein, we felt obliged to speed up and not annoy the other members and paying public on an already overcrowded course. Now, I’ll give credit where it’s due, the course was in shape. Well cut fairways, greens rolling true. But luck enjoying any of it, because slow is the name of the game. Why? Because they actively encourage struggling golfers to hire caddies… not for their bags, but to explain the course conditions, pin locations and shot lines. Which is admirable, really, considering some couldn’t hit a ball out of sight in a photo booth. But hey – the caddies got their steps in! The clubhouse? Oh, it’s a treat – if you’re nostalgic for the Cold War. Imagine your nan’s living room circa 1963, but with less charm and more coffee stains. You’d expect better ambiance at a budget motorway service station, it’s not as if there isn’t enough money coming into the to improve it. Unfortunately the disaster didn’t even stop there because of the service. Picture this, staff scrambling to charge us the rest of the green fee before even acknowledging that they’d forgotten to schedule us in. Priorities, right? Customer service clearly got left in the bunker on this one. In summary, Castlerock charges like a luxury resort, delivery as dependable as Evri, and customer service .. well, it’s like going to a restaurant where the waiter charges you for water, ignores your food order, and then hands you the bill with a smile like they just did you a favour. Bring patience, a sense of humour, and maybe carry a collapsible stool as you’ll need all three. Definitely somewhere else. We came to CastleRock because of the reviews and ratings on review sites but it’s absolutely not worth the money. Over £1,000 for a 4 ball. You’re met with a tired clubhouse and an on-site static caravan park. Moreover, we’d booked this round last year in December quite literally via the - liaising with Sarah Burns and paid over £500 deposit, to turn up on the day to be told they don’t have our booking. The pro almost acted as it is our fault that they had ‘lost’ our booking. It was a thing I had the email exchange between Sarah and the booking via BRS. Granted the nicer chap in the shop got us on, but we were squeezed in between two groups playing horrifically slow. Not only could none of them actually strike a ball, they had 4 caddies talking them through every single shot. It took over 5 hours to get round at one point on the 15th tee box, we were stood there with two groups of 4 with 4 caddies; so 20 of us all stood on a tee box is comical. I will say absolutely fair for getting us on and out - given we’d driven 5 hours and got the ferry over from Scotland to this course. All in all the course is great, it’s challenging and fun - but absolutely not worth the money. Steer clear, go Ardglass, Loch Erne which are so much welcoming, modern and much higher quality for a much lesser price.
