Good visitor centre, do start your visit to the Elan Valley here, to get the best out of your time on the valley. There's a small charge for the car park but that covers all day parking at all of the other car parks around the reservoirs. So it's good value. There's also a gift shop, toilets and lots of information about the area, plus real people to speak to! Near by there's a cycling for help with your bike. Also don't miss the Flooded Villages Memorial at the back of the Visitor Centre, on the footpath to the nearest dam. I’m reviewing the bike ride…. I started off at Rhayader village at the official start of the trail. An amazing and fairly easy going route passing the and reservoirs. Near the end it’s quite steep and I had to have a couple of breaks but then I had about 10 mins of downhill all the way back to my starting point. Was a glorious sunny day when I went and was really quiet and peaceful. Suitable for most abilities (if you discount the very steep part near the end) Highly recommended 🚴 🌞 🏕️🗻 Elan Valley is very picturesque and beautiful. Lots of walks and cycle routes. The drive around the and reservoirs is stunning. I thouroghly recommend going to Elan Valley on your road trip or holiday! We were in the area and decided to visit the centre, really enjoyed our visit, the has a great cafe and gift shop, really good information about the and hydro power, we visited all the on the day, but it was the hottest day of the year with temps of over 30 degrees, so was really pleased to see you fill your water bottles with Welsh water free of charge, really needed it. Would def recommend and will visit again when it's a tad cooler. Great cycle hire. Clean toilets. Good little cafe and gift shop. Tourist has maps and walks. 2 teenagers hired bikes and we walked around 2 dams. V interesting and picturesque. Beautiful scenery once you got up to the tops. A brilliant day out. From the visitor you can walk a few trails with stunning views of the and Elan Valley. Lots of picnic benches at the beginning of the yellow trail and a few near the visitor & playground. Parking all day costs £3. There is a cafe that is very reasonably priced with indoor & outdoor seating by children’s playground, an exhibition room and gift shop. We completed a 5 mile walk and half of it was uphill, it was worth it to see the views. There is also an easy flat walk and path starts by the children’s playground area behind the visitor centre. It looked accessible to prams & wheelchairs. Didn't stay there long as I was riding my bike, but the cafe and visitor were very good. Free parking for 60mins, food was varied and the cakes were delicious. A good place to stop if you're in the area. Beautiful area, well worth a visit. £3 parking reasonable. Great for cycling, a specific path off the road.
