About train: Humongous ripoff for an extremely cramped and sweaty ride (people were stuffed inside like a tuna in a can) uphill/downhill with no special views on the way (track goes through woods, tunnel, some parts are open for a better view). For that price (~44eur/person) you naturally expect some comfort, AC or at least some marvelous views. Strongly advise against rides with a babies, because risk of serious hyperthermia (no air circulation, AC, inside feels like at scorching desert). Even the part about steam cog is a lie/illusion, because there're only two oldimer steam cog trains, lots of others are modern ones. So it's pretty random what you get on. The magnificent views uphill is not connected to a cog service, so I'm not reviewing them. To hike up/down is hundred times better and more interesting. A must see when visiting Wolfgangsee. Expect to witness one of the most beautiful sights in your life when you are up there. I was acting like an excited kid running around when I managed to witness the fantastic views from the top, a beautiful blend of magnificent lakes (i counted 5/6) and majestic mountains. Our family of 4 took the steam furnicular to/fro the base station. While we can't deny it was pretty pricey, visitors who are short of time should take this to the top as it saves a lot of precious energy and time and that means more in your pocket to enjoy the beauty up top. The view is breathtaking even during the ride. There are restaurants at the top and the prices were lower than we expected so it was a pleasant surprise. Prepare cash as cards ARE NOT accepted. All in all, it is totally worth your time, money and energy to be up there to witness the beautiful sights. Beautiful tophills views! We went there by the furnicular and we caught the ancient steam one, it was advantorous! The place has steady paths and the prices in the restaurant are not so high as I expected them to be. But! They are taking only Cash, so be aware of it 😉. All family agreed, that it was totally worth to go up there to see the beautiful 3 lakes view. Amazing! 3-3.5hr walk from St. Wolfgang. Easy to follow signs, tough high, but very worth it. Prepare accordingly, bring water and cold/wet weather gear Must visit place! The is pretty pricy but definitely worth the money, the view is breathtaking even during the ride. Make sure you take a jacket with you even if it’s super hot downstairs because it’s very windy on the top. Rather than taking the we hiked up on trail 23. It’s about 12 miles round trip (from the market), with 4,000 ft of elevation gain. Plan 5-8 hours. While not technically difficult, I’d call it a hard hike. There is NO water refill at the top so be sure to pack enough water; roughly two liters per person. You can buy water, and dump it in a hydro pack. You’re in the sun for the top 1/3. Views 10/10! One of the best peak point I've ever seen 💯 We walked the way up and down it took our whole day but totally it was worth it ✌️ Gorgeous hike, gorgeous view, quite accesible. On the way down it was so windy I almost got blown of the mountain! I think the is very pricy so rather your tighs ;) Also some funky birds to befriend at the top and mountain goats on the way down if you're lucky. Take warm clothes, it's freezing at the top!
