The small unassuming chapel is beautiful and interesting. There are plenty of signs to make sure one can find it. this was one of the most beautiful experiences to see where a typical Christmas song was created, we definitely recommend visiting it :) Just the perfect place, just like you imagined. Definitely worth the 30 minute train from Salzburg and easy to make the trip in 4-5 hours round trip. Museum is wonderful too. Make the shore walking trip across the river to Germany. Take time for the museum, so much to learn with three floors of exhibitions. We visited Dec. 26 not knowing it was St. Stephen’s Day. Museum and church were open but almost everything else in town was closed except for one shop across the street. Once you get off the train, it is very easy to follow the signs. They will take you directly there. It’s about a 12 minute walk. It was so nice visiting the birthplace of Silent Night. Everything was decorated for the holiday and what a significant meaning the chapel, church, museum, school and village have. Very quaint and serene. Unexpected excellent museum next door. Well-worth the journey! Must see around Christmas.. Take some time in the Chapel, close your eyes and play Stille Nacht in your head. Then visit the museum and listen to it again. :) it's a song that managed to interrupt wars. We came for an early viewing of the Silent Night Chapel, during our 2025 European Christmas Markets Tour. We lit candles for our parents. We were glad to have made the effort, and we also visited the Advent Market here as well. This is a sacred and peaceful little chapel. It is located in a small town, Oberndorf, Austria that is probably best known as the location of the first singing of Silent Night, a hymn that is now known to billions of people in nearly every language. We were there on the 200th anniversary of Silent Night. It is an hour and a half from Munich and is will worth the time to visit. If you love the song, you will love the connection you achieve by being at the place it all began! 24th evening or xmas eve, it was packed and in outdoors do go with motion of pics Deeping its indoor. It was an outdoor ceremony in chilly weather, honestly skipping this tour wouldn't.ake a difference. Though overall it was average. This place is a wonderful and magical little Christmas Market to visit small and peaceful but plenty going on and the silent Chapel is a must see. Magical place. Well worth a visit if you are in the district. Tells the story behind the Carol and leaves you wanting to hear the carol. A small but well stocked gift shop which you will find hard to leave without buying a souvenir. I did not know such a place existed, and feel every time I hear the carol in future I will have more understanding of the lyrics.
