Undisturbed Burrator is surrounded by mixed woodland, which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors. The reservoir is perfect for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders due to its wealth of footpaths and bridleways. Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor, so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips. The circular walk which follows the lanes around the water is ideal for families as it is easy going and flat. It will take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete and is approximately 3.5 miles. Parking is possible at various locations, including the Quarry car park, Norsworthy Bridge, and the Dam. Low-cost bank fishing for both rainbow and brown trout is available at this scenic water; permits are sold at the garage in Yelverton. Being within Dartmoor National Park. The National Cycle Route 27 runs near Burrator. Ice cream vans visit the dam, Norsworthy Bridge, and Sharpitor car park. Burrator Reservoir is available to the public all year round, and it's free Scenic place with view of water and trees on farsight to immerse yourself into nature. You can also do fishing as well. Fab place for a walk. We did an OS circular one taking in the Tor as well, which was marvellous. Even got an ice cream en route. Good parking, easy to find. It's always a nice place to visit for a stroll. Sadly, there are still plenty of irresponsible dog owners leaving ppoo bags scattered around. A short drive over the moor from Tavistock brings you over to the Burrator quarry and further along to the Burrator Reservoir, there are quite a few parking spaces but it looks like it could get quite busy at peak times. We were fortunate it was quiet, an ice cream van sat in a prime spot so we had to have a 99 cone @£3.50 a piece to enjoy whilst wandering and snapping a few pics. Lovely area for a walk. We stuck to the tarmac path and did the loop around (about 4miles) Easy walking for all abilities. Lots of wildlife and pretty places. 2 ice cream vans here but they only take cash. Parking is free and you can park near the dam alongside the road but it does get busy during peak season. Gorgeous family walks can be as long or as short as you like finish off with an ice cream! Also good running route. 3.5 miles to go all the way around only slight hills. Beware the busy Sundays. Other than that it's an amazing place to take a long walk. Definitely recommend going off the road and up a few of the bridle ways. The views are amazing.
