Fabulous little church, a great example of romanesque architecture. The trip is worth just to see the door. Has stained glass by Pugin (who did, among others, the Big Ben). There's parking just outside for half a dozen of cars. 12th Century rural that is known for its stone carvings. Although almost 900 years old the is in a wonderful condition, apart from the roof very little restoration has been required. Good car parking and a ruined castle to too. St. Mary & St David Killpeck is a hidden gem that truly captivates with its remarkable architecture. The intricate details and craftsmanship, especially the impressive corbels, speak volumes about the artistry involved in its construction. A lovely place to visit. I've been wanting to get here for a long time, and now I have the chance. It's amazing. Even though it was a weekday and it was closed, I'm happy I managed to see it. The great location and mysterious atmosphere add to the mania. We were traveling from afar and I was looking for a place to stay. Bingo! There was a Michelin-recommended restaurant The Kilpeck Inn nearby with clean, cozy rooms. What could be better than enjoying the aesthetics and history, and then having a delicious meal and relaxing before continuing on your journey in the morning?) On a planned castle tour, Kilpeck was on the itinerary. As lovely as visiting the remnants of the castle was, we had not banked on finding such a gem as this church. Thought to have been a holy site since Saxon times and the is believed to derive its name from Pedic, a holy man who had a cell within the confines of the church. The area was built upon extensively from Norman times following the fortification of Kilpeck around 1140. The entrance to the is incredible and is a story in itself as well as all the individually carved corbels around the church. The inside is full of a mix of timelines from the 12th century to the 20th. You can buy guide books that explain to you in detail what all these additions are. If you are in this area, a to this is highly recommended. The village itself is quiet and quaint with horses leaning over the 5 bar gates of their fields and birds flitting quite closely to you as they enjoy the lack of civilisation here. Bring a picnic if it’s a nice day, as there is plenty of space at the or castle grounds to enjoy it. No toilets that seems to be available on location, and there is limited parking within the confines of the immediate vicinity. Wheelchair access could be limited. Beautiful old church, extremely unique and worth the visit. Kilpeck Church, also known as the of St. Mary and St. David, dates back to around 1140. If you are interested in architecture or if you are just around the area, I urge you to go and it. Located in a small village, surrounded by an idyllic countryside and so peaceful. It dates from about 1140AD and was once adjacent to a Benedictine monastery. It has the most intriguing, elaborated and amazing carvings you will ever see, many of a distinctly un-christian nature. The itself is unusual for its rounded apse - not a very common element in English parish churches, though not unique by any means. Beautiful and incredible place, totally worth a visit!
