This is a real hidden gem, we came here when we realised that Bsth Chattos garden wasn't open on a Sunday. So glad that we came here, it's not as commercial and has a homely feel. There's lot's of really interesting and plants. There's also 2 national collections which is to see. The gard9is divided into to sections. One is slightly more formal with beds and places to chill. There's also a kids playground with trampoline amd a tree house as well a a pond. On the other side There's the woodland garden. Each side is around 10 acres. The tea room is very down to earth selling toasted sandwiches, baguettes and soup as well as cake. Essex' version of 'Kew Gardens'! Perfect size, you can see the whole place in a day. Plenty or benches around so you can pace yourself. Quiet too so feels more peaceful. Lovely welcome from the resident doggies! Free parking. Accessible toilets. Cafe on site. Friendly staff. Nice selection of to buy too. Kids loved running around and exploring, especially the tree house. They enjoyed the trampolines and swings too. Well worth a visit! Such a place to visit. The owner of this place is very friendly and approachable. This is the perfect place for you if you are looking for a place where you just want to relax and enjoy gardens. This is probably one of the very few places where I have seen many different plants. It's fascinating. Everything seems to be done with so much love and care. There's a tearoom where you can sit for a cuppa and then just go for a walk and see the gardens. The toilets are well maintained and very clean. There's also a car park with plenty of car parking spaces. What a wonderful place. The are and tranquil and there is so much to see. We enjoyed strolling around the different areas and looking at the wide variety of trees and plants. There are many areas just to sit and relax. We had a cup of tea at the end of our sitting in the garden area outside. There were some really nice looking home made cakes although we didn't have any this time. All reasonably priced. The gentleman on duty could not have been more polite, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed it so much we upgraded our ticket so we can have more visits. Well worth visiting Visited the today. Extremely disappointed. Not worth the £10 entry fee at all. Plus £2 for a map printed on a home computer? Tea rooms were filthy and ridiculously overpriced. Disabled parking was taken up by 4 cars - none of which were displaying blue badges. Staff member who (eventually) met us at the door was incredibly rude and didn't seem to want to assist whatsoever. Save your money and Beth Chatto instead. At least they provide proper tearooms, facilities for the disabled and concession rates. Very nice 2 hour wander round the gardens...full of birdsong and butterflies. Great for kids with imagination as well with fairy houses and play areas. Had a afternoon with my husband at Green Island yesterday, just chilling in the sunshine and enjoying the peace and quiet. Had a cuppa and a sneaky slice of fruit cake in the tearoom, served by a very friendly young lady. Lots of flowers and unusual to see. Definitely worth a visit, but allow plenty of time as there is a lot of ground to cover. We had a walk in the Green Islands at the end of April, it was an oasis of peace and we enjoyed the floral splendour. Compliments to Fiona and her team for maintaining the in this way. T.M. Nijmegen Nederland We have recently moved to the area and my wife found your website. Today, we visited for the first time and cannot believe we have such a fantastic place on our doorstep. A great place to unwind and relax and it was great to meet Fiona and the dogs and cats too. So impressed, we signed up for a season ticket and look forward to returning soon. Our was about three and a half hours. The bluebells were in full bloom and looking fabulous. There are and woodded areas planted in a natural informal style and paths that wiggle and wind through. There are lots of log piles for wildlife. And plenty of views and spots to pause. A delicious scone and coffee to finish. This place offers a refreshingly intimate, genuine, and relaxed experience. Green Island is a garden near Colchester. It is a haven made up of woodlands and island beds. It is serene and peaceful and we spent a afternoon there recently. They have a small cafe serving a good range of simple lunches. Four of us visited the today and we thought we had found a very special hidden gem. The and woods are beautiful. The Tea Room is quirky and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside enjoying our coffee with all around us. Sadly we forgot to look at the for sale so! I think we will probably return again in the spring time as I would imagine the spring flowers and bluebells, et cetera will be something worth seeing. beautiful! Did I say how this place is? What a hidden gem, we were lucky enough to talk to the owner, she was amazing too, am now looking at the Airbnb she does too.. one inch windy negative, I wasn't overly on the coffee, it wasn't hot enough, but that's because it comes from a machine.. jacket potato my made in the aga( amazing) place gardens. Perfect mix of cultivated beds complemented by natural wooded areas. We went when the azaleas were in full bloom. The colours and scent were spectacular. Enjoyed delicious cake from the tearoom. The family pets were an added bonus. peaceful and woodlands. Fiona the owner is very knowledgeable and is a great guide. She makes delicious cake too. We will be back in the autumn to see the colours in the trees.
