This is Timișoara's largest theater, with a seating capacity of almost 700. It's located in the historical opera building. There are regular shows held on a regular basis, with many national plays and adapted international plays. The seating is uncomfortable the more you sit down, because the chairs are old and too hard, and are covered with a prickly material. Beautiful building, inside and out! I think it looked better before they built the new facade (around 100 years ago, I think, maybe), but it's still an impressive theater, considering the whole market. The first performance at the Timişoara Opera was on 27 April 1875, the inaugural concert being Aida by G. Verdi. On April 20, 1880 the building is devastated by the fire. The reconstruction completed in 1882, keeps the original renaissance style of the façade. A lovely next to the square. The ticket office can be access through the street on the left side of the opera house. Nice historical place, mostly red on the inside. In the photos it looks bigger but it's not that big. Tickets are at a reasonable price especially if you pick a chair on the high floors which in my opinion is cooler. Price starts from around 40 lei to 120 lei (in the first floor in front of the stage). Before you go check if there are one/two acts and how much time the performance will take. Important: when i visited the place they requested that we come with Printed 🎫 Tickets - do check if that is still a thing. This is one my favorite places to visit in Timisoara. Good Opera at a very reasonable price. Excellent acoustics and beautiful setting. A must visit during Opera season which started today! Went to see "Tache, Ianke si Cadîr", with Horaţiu Mălăele, Răzvan Vasilescu, Mihai Constantin playing the main roles. It was amazing to see these great actors on the scene, the whole crew, in fact. They all did their roles so well, it was fantastic! I went to this place twice, amazing actors and arhitecture 💕 I will go there again soon for sure :) Lovely right in the heart of Timişoara. We saw My Fair Lady. The is small enough that there are really no bad seats. It was nice to see that attendees took the trouble to dress up and didn't just show up in jeans. In the intermission, we took photographs on the balcony with the illuminated square in the background. Amazing! We were on tour from the US and an evening out at the was so special after two years of a pandemic. I recently visited this theatre to see John Malkovich perform, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience. I was seated in the last row, and the lack of legroom was absolutely inhumane—there was barely any space to move or stretch my legs. In comparison to theatres in other countries, this type of seating feels like a violation of basic comfort, let alone human rights. To make matters worse, the entire venue had a disgusting sewage smell that made the experience even more unpleasant. I won't be returning to this theatre again and highly recommend avoiding it if you're looking for a comfortable and pleasant experience.
