Atmosphere reminiscent of the 70s ( judging by the clientele) One of the few places in Herrison which I thought provided a decent environment for a meal and other refreshments. We have always liked this place. The street gives the feeling of a very French atmosphere and the food and wine is reasonably priced. Free car parking, and the village is very pretty and unique with its own castle and a lovely river to walk along, with lots of trees and plenty of fish jumping for flies. Many of the buildings are very old and very French and there are many walks, from going down the river to walking up in the hills which surround it Lovely bar and restaurant. The lady serving worked very hard. Beautiful street setting. Superb place. Lovely very reasonably-priced food and a wonderful rustic atmosphere. Good selection of interesting beers. Miriam was our waitress and she was so friendly and accommodating in our broken French. She kept the drinks flowing and each person‘s meal was fairly priced and fresh. The fries were especially good. I had that piece de charlaois and kir with vin blanc (💯). our friends steak, Cheval, Guinness, and burger burgers. No complaints! David, the chef spoke very good English and checked on us a couple times. He is also the bar manager. We sat inside this 500-year-old building. Lots of local folks and lots of smiles and laughter. A great feeling. When we walked out, the dark country night was only lit by one street light and as soon as we get out of its range, the streets were pitch black. Completely safe town and a great evening! Sunday night in October. Limited menu which is fine as quality is 100%. Great burger and lovely chips. Atmosphere and service was perfect. Merci! A pleasant looking auberge, but mediocre food with unfriendly service. We did not receive a warm welcome, and waited much too long for our meal, despite other customers being served before us. We left before dessert, as we couldn't wait any longer. Very disappointing. Burnt fries, no vegetarian options (even the three salads came with meat) and for the meat options we were not asked “how well cooked?” which is rare in France. We were a big group, so i am fine with some aspects being more difficult than with a small group but still it was far more subpar than expected. It did feel like an authentic representation of the region (hence two stars) but would have liked more customer centric experience.
