Quirky wee castle ruin with a short metal spiral staircase inside which you can climb to get great all round including over towards Ben Hope. The start of the begins in Tongue, there's a small parking area right near the start of the which is a 2 mile round trip. Castle Varrich is more of a lookout than a castle but the are well worth the easy up. Park up in the village where there is ample parking and look for the signs which take you along a beautiful trail past a nice children’s playground and to a lovely bridge across the river. The path is even but not always smooth with some uneven parts. The climb to the top isn’t challenging if you’re relatively mobile and used to a walk. Once you get to the lookout there are stunning far and wide on a sunny day which we were lucky enough to have. There’s an easy to navigate set of iron stairs within the castle that takes you to a viewing platform for breathtaking while preserving the castle. There is no entry fee or any queues and plenty of lovely spots along the way for a picnic. A lovely which isn’t too time consuming with plenty of reward in the scenery. Quite the hike, but the view from the top is phenomenal. You can feel the power of this place. Must see if you are of the clan MacKay It's a small ruin on top of a hill. Short from the town. Easy to reach. It's pretty well maintained for how broken down it is. View is good. Four stars because there was a notable amount of red bull cans. Might have been there at an unlucky time. In summary, the castle ruins weren’t exciting but those are DAMN FINE! The was 20-30mins but totally worth it for the alone, we happened to get beautiful sunset views. Would recommend going if you have good weather, otherwise not worth it in my opinion. A short hike to Castle Varraich. We really enjoyed spending time there. The area is lovely and peaceful. Excellent view to the field and water. The footpath starts around the road junction next to the Tongue Public Toilet. Prepare for an uphill of 20 minutes. Fantastic easy to to possible with a out and about pram as long as you are fit Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
