The church was built and painted between 1407 and 1413. Rrenovated in the middle of the 18th century by monks from Moracha. The elder of the in the period 1817-1820 was Archimandrite Samuil Jakovljevic who in 1820 went to Constantinople as a member of the deputy of Prince Milos. Kalenic was built by a nobleman Bogdan in the beginning of 15th century. The main church is exceptionally beautiful with Romanesque style carving around the window, and the interior is adorned by frescoes from the time of the construction. The images of warrior saints are especially graceful. It looks like this is rarely visited (at the time of our visit there were no other tourists or even locals), which is strange taking into accout its beauty. Манастир Каленић је задужбина протовестијера Богдана, његове жене Милице и његовог брата Петра. Црква је подигнута и живописана између 1407. и 1413. године. У турским пописима помиње се 1476/78. и 1516. године као манастир Пречисте у Левчу. Каленић је страдао у више наврата од Турака, а запустео је крајем 17. века. Од почетка XVIII века, у Каленић долазе и обнављају га монаси из манастира Мораче. Крајем 1815. године из Фенека у Срему у манастир су пренете и положене мошти краља Стефана Првовенчаног – светог Симона монаха, да би 1839. биле враћене у Студеницу. Манастир је значајније обновљен 1766. године и неколико пута касније, да би између 1928. и 1930. године био темељно рестауриран. После Другог светског рата, конзерваторски радови су обављени у два маха – између 1968. и 1970. године и током последње деценије XX века. Манастир је сазидан у стилу такозване моравске архитектуре и једна је од најлепших грађевина свога времена у византијском свету. Од недавно, у цркви манастира Каленића налази се светогорска чудотворна икона Богородице Герондисе која је постављена на посебан престо између олтара и јужне певнице. The most beautiful Serbian monastery. :) Very interesting place to visit if you are nearby. Next to the is narrow river with old bridges. Peaceful atmosphere is guaranteed and surrounding nature is untouched. Beautiful medieval Serbian monastery. Highly recommended to visit if you wanna feel calm, no sttress,.. and simply to hear the silence, so to speak. I go here often since the village of Kalenicki Prnjavor is where my dad was born.
