We couldn't park in the main town so navigated to this and chip cafe. There was very convenient on-site parking and the interior is light and airy with clean toilets. It's a comprehensive menu with selection and ok pricing. I had a with and mushy peas and unfortunately the batter was hard at the edges and inside the texture was dry and over-cooked. This should be moist and readily flake but it was just over-cooked and not enjoyable. My 3 other friends had similar issues. The chips, by contrast, could have benefitted from 2 or 3 minutes more cooking. The potatoes were not a particularly flavour. Finally, the mushy peas were nice and mushy in texture - not just processed peas - but again, the flavour wasn't good. It didn't seem they had been cooked with enough salt and whilst this can be added, it's not quite the same as having been cooked from the start properly seasoned. It may have just been a bad day for then, but really there were a few too many fairly basic things wrong with our meals - sorry. After using this place extremely frequently in the past, having consistently 5 star and - the last 3 or 4 times I've been the has been quite poor. The batter, and cook of it all has not changed and is still great, however there has been a significant drop in the of the used. Tastes like it's no longer the Icelandic I believe they used to use. No longer are they a size or nice meaty flakes like before either which I find disappointing. I contemplated writing this review as I love this place, but it is such a shame to see the drop in the of the used. It is definitely different to what they used to use, as it has been like this the last 3 or 4 times we have been. With the drop in quality, the price has increased. Rightfully so as I understand the market is absolutely crazy now, and I don't mind paying up to £12 for a large haddock, especially if it is a size and Icelandic - however this is no longer that. Great and chips, needed slightly longer in fryer but they were cooked Bit pricey for the size of fish, but I know white is gone up in price lately, didn't detract from a very n chips. Coked in dripping for maximum flavour. We ate out and didn't get offered salt or vinegar before our meal was wrapped and bagged to go. Fabulous business. Best fishnchips I've ever had. The product was delicious, great and cosy very reasonable. Better than the Magpie in Whitby ,hands down. 100 per cent recommended. Lovely fresh and served by friendly attentive staff. We travel quite some distance to come here for food. that they also have skate and plaice available, as well as crab salad. Closed in Mondays, which is a shame, but they need a day off! Car park is fairly small but there's free parking nearby. Disabled access through the takeaway door. Most tables are in the nice and light conservatory. Seating is basic but very comfy. Easy to accommodate a wheelchair. Also worth visiting the antiques centre across the road while you're there. We had a takeaway from here and were very disappointed. We had cod and and chicken and chips. Queued for at least half an hour. The was a size and meaty and tasty. However the were awful they were just a greasy soggy mess. I left most of them. Possibly the worst I’ve ever had. The chicken tasted better than it looked although rather dry. Nothing like as as the last time we visited sadly. The and were very tasty and not greasy. The staff were very pleasant and attentive during our visit. We’d certainly recommend this restaurant, a well Deserved 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
