We have just had a few days away and came a cross this pub. Honestly worth a visit. The landlord was so welcoming and and had a lovely chat with him. Couple of locals in too that also made us feel welcome. Food was really nice and price too. We will definitely visit again when we return to the area. Oh my! The service was fantastic: very and helpful. The environment cozy, with a little chimney fire and comfortable benches. And the food…!! I had the haggis pakota - unexpectedly great! The best pub lasagna ever… My sisters had the sirloin steak and the steak pie, from a local butcher, which were also superb, as well as the potato and leak soup and cakes for desert. What a little hidden gem! Thank you 🙏🏼 We past by on a Sunday and despite this being a few miles from our route we weren’t disappointed, we met a lovely lady serving at the bar and we ordered the Aunt Janette's Homemade Steak pie with veg and chips, I forgot to take a photo due to being hungry and the smell of the food had me hypnotised and the taste was amazing, the beef in the pie just melted in your mouth along with a good selection of drinks including a non alcoholic selection, like I said off the beaten track but well worth it. The haddock was nice. The macaroni cheese maybe lacked a wee bit of flavour. Other than that, the landlord was pleasant and chatty and the atmosphere was with a warming coal fire on the go. Dropped in for lunch on the way to Gretna, and we had a experience here. The lasagne with garlic bread was excellent, and the roast chicken dinner was really good too. Generous portions, very reasonable prices and pleasant service and chat from the staff. Will return again, and as it's convenient for the M74, it's so much better quality and value than the motorway services. On our trip home we decided to stop off for dinner and we found the pub to be great. Food was good and reasonable priced. The barman was and was a nice atmosphere. Stopped in last night on our way to mull. Asked if it was dog friendly, they are VERY dog and a lovely local even popped their dog back on lead when I said ours can be a bit worried around others. Had a lovely food and a very welcoming atmosphere. Cosy little pub, well worth the drive from the services or wherever you are stopping over. Fantastic little place. We stopped for a food break Aberdeen to Manchester and wanted to find something that was not a service station. We came off junction 11 A74m and joined back on at junction 13 so not too far detour. The pub was very welcoming with the chap who served us doing everything from welcome to cooking. The food was really nice and I had roast potatoes with my pie which were the best roast potatoes I have ever had! Hubby had a burger which was good too. prices, food in a lovely warm proper pub. We will remember this for future trips. Thanks.
