A fine establishment that you cannot miss from the road up to Matka Canyon. Only a small interior section of the is actually inside a cave. Most of the seating areas are located outside on a slanted concrete floor. The food is mostly tasty grilled meat, salads and other local fare. the grilled mushrooms are stunningly good. Perfectly salted and cooked. Veal was average. The ice cream was mediocre. The best part about this is the stunning view of the river and canyon. The worst part has to be the smelly duty toilet. I wish I could round up to a four star, but the toilet really scarred me for life. A wonderful experience in the Monastery Cave in Matka. A large terrace for dining or you can dine in the cave, we opted for the outdoors to enjoy the view of the gorge, alongside the water feature. The is located just on the main road by Treska river, just a short walk from the dam. The staff was lovely, and the food was cooked to order and very fresh. We enjoyed a simple salad of cucumber, which was delicious, followed by traditional grilled meats and our favourite village meat with vegetables, one of the best yet. A great selection of meal choices and wine available, primarily traditional Macedonian food. Finished our lunch with ice cream, which was a huge portion! Recommend Monastery Cave restaurant, for the level of service, great views, incredible food, and excellent value for money. Beware this is the same as the "The Macedonian Cave Restaurant". They are the same place. There are two listings on Google Maps for this one restaurant. I recommend checking the reviews of the other listing to see more. The food was not and the service was OK for us, but the waiter/owner was very hostile to others. Do not mention you want to use the toilet. For love couples there are romantic place in the cave. to visit and it's not a tourist trap. Quite big with local cuisine. Broad selection of grilled food and salads. The Monastery Cutlet was extremely tough, it was like cutting through a golf ball and the sauce was just a bland mess. The pork earthen pot was ok, pork was tough and the vegetables bland even though they were covered by an okay sauce. thing there are stray cats nearby to feed the terrible food to, they seem to be living well off from the scraps the customers feed them because the food is below par (the mom and the dad cats have babies! Congrats!). To end the meal was another disappointment because once the waiter sees that you are a tourist, he WILL expect a tip. He didn’t even ask the Macedonian locals for a tip next to us but when it was time to pay our bill, he expected a tip which I said no. He then made a huge commotion like it was expected for us to tip and made angry gestures. Don’t even bother spending money at this establishment and supporting their business.
