Was a beautiful place, didn't stay at the hotel just ate there. Having breakfast at Canyon Matka in Macedonia is a unique experience. We thought about eating here, but it was a bit pricey and busy. As such we grabbed a quick drink and snack, before moving on. Staff are lovely but struggle with the volume of customers. Views from the are incredible and well worth stopping if you have time just to take in the scenery. We saw fish and a snake in the water! The has very beautiful views of the canyon, accented nicely with flowers. The dessert was delicious, but I wasn't aware until I asked the server that there was another menu with meal options as well as the dessert and drinks. The tables outside where we were sitting only had the dessert and drink menus. In any case, the prices are high by local standards. Worst of all is the fact that people smoke everywhere. Two customers sitting next to me were both smoking, including a man who rested his lit cigarette just centimeters away from me, which is really offensive even though it's commonplace in the Balkans. There's only one restroom (toilet) in the area, and it costs one euro or 60 denars per use. As you can see from the pictures, the prices in the menu are enormous...but that was not the problem! The problem was the food itself. We tried pasta, risotto, salad...dissapointing, very dissapointing! I know that everyone has preferences, and it is very subjective, but we eat this food in the whole world and here it was the worst experience. Even our 13 years old child cooks better pasta. The salad was also poor in ingredients and did not resemble the one in the menu. So, be careful and eat somewhere else, if you don't want to spend a lot of money on poor food. The location is amazing and the has gorgeous views. The was very professional and everyone was nice and helpful. The plating of the food was also awesome so it looks great in pictures. That said, the food didn’t taste great. It was a bit of bland to be honest. Hence the three star overall ranking. Still a nice given the location. But the food could have been better. Loved the cats, kittens and a dog that roamed the place. There dynamic was very enjoyable. So that’s a plus no doubt. Purely touristy and expensive for what a restaurant, cafe and hotel complex offers. Its comparative advantage is its amazing location and its uniqueness in this particular spot. Very expensive and its philosophy is purely seasonal. The is quite good but that alone is not enough. Really a tough place to call home. Very difficult to park. No air conditioning. food was enormously overpriced and largely inedible... especially the free breakfast. And to top things off the security guard decided to grope my wife. Wait. Why did I give it 2 stars? Staff was pleasant and helped haul luggage 8 minutes from the parking lot. There were bugs in the room. The sheets were full of hair. That's why we couldn't stay. There was no such thing as cleaning. No one greeted us. There was no air conditioning in the rooms and there were no mosquito nets on the windows. We had to leave without staying and they didn't refund our fee. I definitely don't recommend it. Great people and service. I loved how waiters and workers approach. So kind and helpful. Rooms were so warm that in Middle of January we did not feel cold at all. Kayaking was also great and cheap. Just be careful about bus times. Bus number 60 comes here but please ask to waiters there to get help about bus hours. - the downside are small rooms and high prices. We were woken up a few times at night by dogs barking. - on the other/positive side is that we also got a bottle of very good wine with the room and unlimited hot drinks at breakfast. We did not go to the hotel or the but we did do the boat tour and honestly it was worth the experience. Couple of things that I did not like was that for the “public bathroom” you have to pay 1 euro or 60 denars. Which I understand but as a public bathroom,it should be free. Second thing that I noticed,it was that it wasn’t as clean as it should be. Over all the cave and the canyon it self was pretty cool. Definitely worth visiting. When the waiter took our order he didn’t write it all down and when the food came out someone in our group did not get a meal. We were at Matka yesterday and had a very bad at this restaurant. We ordered 2 beers and a Sprite, but the bill listed something completely different – a soup and two beers. The total seemed too high, so we asked for the receipt. Only then did he write the items down, after we had paid. Since we didn’t understand the language well, it felt like we were deliberately tricked. This is dishonest and unacceptable. I do not recommend this place to anyone. Overpriced, unpleasant staff and they charge for toilet even if you are guest of the restaurant. On top of it you have to have the exact money or they will not give you change back, plus once is 40 denars, the other time was 60. Just a few moments in difference!!!!!!
