This is well worth a visit , the now is a late 18th century folly built on the footprint of a medieval keep , the from the ramparts are extensive and stunning . There is a lot to see here in and around the both historic and wildlife . There is a small car park and some excellent guide books to be found there . I would consider it a must visit place when in the area and will be going back again . It is a wonderful that is worth driving to. It is not huge, so it will not take up too much of your time, but the are breathtaking. It does have a spot where you can go up on the wall, so that is an enjoyable experience. I was the only one there on a Thursday in April. The doesn’t take long to look at so I cannot imagine this place gets busy. There are no facilities. There was a detailed leaflet available in the carpark giving a history of the and the village. Inside the walls there is a donation box. This is the ruins of an old and it's free to visit. There are some nice informational booklets, available at the entrance in the car park next to the donation box, which provide an interesting historical context. The was built around 800 years ago, and was fought over by the English and the Scots for centuries. It has a commanding position with impressive of the eastern Borders region. Visiting and exploring Hume was amazing but the view from the top is even better Small free parking area, the slope up to the entrance is not bad, there are gates with a latch that you can get through, three land owners just ask you keep them closed and do not take dogs inside, due to it being located in farming fields with livestock nearby. There are wooden steps leading up to the castle. You can wander around freely in and around it, including up onto the wall turret where you can look at a plinth showing distance and names of all the surroundings. Considering there's no cost to explore this place, it's a hidden gem in the borders! Nice wall remains. An impressive view of the area. Easy climb from the parking lot. The parking lot is very small and only has room for a few standard-sized vehicles. There are no toilets. No ticket needed, there is a donation box for those interested. Not a real castle, but a folly built on the foundations of an old fortress. Still worth a visit, for the beautiful scenery, the view, or for a picnic on a dry day.
