The highest point on the Dorset coastline, with fabulous overlooking West Bay and Lyme Regis, with the Devon coastline and edge of Dartmoor visible on a clear day. The paths are well maintained and plenty of parking is available at Langdon Hill, managed by the National Trust (charges apply but it's free for members). The from Langdon Hill to the top of Golden Cap takes around 20 minutes. Once at the summit you'll find a trig point, monument and a few benches where you can sit and enjoy the views. For longer walks, follow the coast either way. Heading east leads down into the quaint village of Seatown and uphill to Thorncombe Beacon. The west goes towards Charmouth, passing a ruined church at the lost village of Stanton St Gabriel. With its combination of great walks, stunning scenery with some history and an ever changing landscape, Golden Cap is a highlight of the Dorset coastline. Lovely views, lots of interesting walks and picnic areas. A bit of uphill walking to get to the top of Golden Cap. You have to pay £6 to all day at the NT car parks nearby, free to members. Walked here from West Bay and back along the south west coast / Monarchs Way path. Few hills in between but nothing strenuous or hard going. Lovely across to Lyme Regis and beyond. Some of the hills along the way have had land slips so be careful if near the edge. Can get very muddy in places esp through the covered area heading up to the cap. No shade from the wind and rain at the top and can get quite blowy on the top on a bad day. We had a mixture of weather but i can imagine on a really wet and windy day you don't want to be hanging about. As always please take your litter home with you and leave only footprints. Spectacular and not too demanding walk, don't get me wrong, it's not for beginners but my 4 years old managed to complete the from National Trust parking. 25 minutes each way. Definitely worth it. NT members get to for free but it's an affordable parking. A reasonable from the carpark to the top. Is a little steep in places but worth it for the over towards Seatown beach and towards Lyme Regis. Always a beautiful and stunning views. Great non muddy circular as well as paths to the beach, Seaton, and the Coast Path. Plenty of good parking. My wife and I recently tackled the 6.5-mile circular Golden Cap (Walk 20 from Dorset and the Jurassic Coast Outstanding Circular Walks)—and it exceeded every expectation. Starting from the beach car in Seatown, the route unfolded like a perfectly paced story, rich with sweeping panoramas, sea-salted air, and moments that made us pause in awe. Yes, there were some steep climbs. But every ascent rewarded us with breathtaking coastal that stretched far beyond the horizon—rolling hills meeting rugged cliffs, and the kind of natural grandeur that reminds you how special Dorset truly is. The trail was well-marked and varied, winding through golden meadows, woodland edges, and the iconic summit that gives Golden Cap its name. We spent four glorious hours walking, chatting, and taking it all in; soaking up the peace, the challenge, and the sheer beauty of it all. It’s the sort of that stays with you long after you’ve taken off your boots. Huge appreciation to the National Trust for preserving this gem. Golden Cap is an unforgettable slice of the Jurassic Coast, and we couldn’t recommend it more. We took a beautiful from Stonebarrow car to Golden Cap. Stunning all the way. There are cattle and sheep grazing along the route we took so dog walkers need to be aware. The cliff does go fairly near to the edge in places so care needed with kids and dogs. The is strenuous in places but there are odd benches around if a sit down is needed! Fantastic view let down by dog owners leaving poo bags on public seats Beautiful walk. Tough climbs but so worth the view from the top. Looks like the Mediterranean! Really lovely This was a fantastic hike that had some challenging sections. Proper shoes, water and snacks are a must if you complete the full circular hike. It is not very well mark, but there is a description you can download from the National Trust website of each phase of the hike that provides detailed directions which was fun to follow. Fantastic view, even when it’s overcast. The from Langdon Hill car is reasonable with the final stretch up to Golden Cap exercising the leg muscles. Just glad we didn’t take the footpath from Seatown which has some seriously steep sections. Definitely worth it when you reach the top. Lovely views. Great walking and back up from Seatown Beach.
