I've never expected the place yo be so big and it comprises and holds all kinds of sports activities gor all age groups. Very clean and tidy. The bar on the top was a on top notch and the view was really amazing. Only used the gym and it's got positives and negatives. Getting in and out with the band can be a pain and finding a locker that works is just a guessing game. The equipment in the gym is great; clean, modern, works well. The issue is actually getting to use it as the gym is pretty small and usually busy. If you're wanting a treadmill then you'll be fine, but otherwise you might have a wait on your hands. The gym is also lacking in equipment I think. Only one of each weight machine (hence the waiting) and some missing (prone leg curl, seated calf raise, hip thrust to name a few). I appreciate most exercises can be done with free weights or cables but it's nice to have a choice of a machine and they're often more stable. Again, there's only two cable machines and 1 smith machine so even if you're attempting these exercises in a different manner you may have to wait. Sounds like a lot of negatives but it is a nice gym in a decent location with nice staff. Thr modern equipment they do have is really nice. Most of the lockers are broken… machines only seemed to get cleaned by conscientious gym members - not by the staff. If you like to listen to your own music when on a treadmill or bike - forget it! The ‘background’ music is so loud even the best noise cancelling headphones turned up full can’t block it out. Very few weight machines - 1 of each - means having to wait for one to come free. I made the mistake of taking out a 12 month contract and massively regret it. I agree with people it was better before take over. My granddaughter goes to swimming lessons and has been 91%for 7 weeks shes in level 6.they are doing the same things every week.My daughter is sick of complaining and nothing is getting done. And this week a different teacher. I would like a response please.looking at reviews they soon reply when you write something good. My daughter has messaged Mark Seymour again. I would not reccomend the instructor my granddaughter has. They are just swimming up and down and thats basically it.The instructor has it easy he gets them to swim and walks to other end of pool and does this back again till the half hour is up. For the second time I have came to Ponteland leisure centre on carer duties and we have been assisted by Darren at the front desk, what a kind, helpful, patient and understanding employee! So clear at explaining all of the membership differences and options. Such a lovely place and environment. SUB OPTIMAL AND GOING DOWNHILL! Since the take over the facilities have taken a steep decline. Understaffed and cleanliness is very noticeable. Changing rooms Let’s start with the cleanliness of the male changing and area surrounding the changing facilities. The shower blocks at 8:30am are thick with dirt and gunk, this is clearly from the previous day as it’s not new dirt or bodily dirt. The toilets especially the seats are covered in urine and look yellow/orange and grubby on the underside. Walk out on the way to the sauna and steam room and you find grubby unclean tiles. Health suit There is always something not working. Today it was the jacuzzi and the cold water shower, the week before it was the loungers and the week before it was the sauna on the left that took weeks to fix and it still has a sign saying it had a faulty door. You can see through the cracks of the wood slates the repulsive cleanliness and human fat gathered under the sauna. The steam rooms smells like old BO with no aroma of scented oils that it should have. Food The kids food is an absolute joke! Terrible quality at a premium price. 2 fish fingers CREMATED with a minuscule amount of “fish” inside them follow by a tiny portion of chips. This has been the case of several occasions ( 2 kids parties and 2 personal purchases) The cafe at the soft play is never open! We need to take our kids up the stairs to the bar area to order then walk all the way back down with food. The toilets at the soft play are DISGUSTING! For the past few weeks one has been out of order as well. The staff are this places only saving grace, they are always very polite and happy to help. Overall the leisure centre is going down hill. Very helpful staff. Always quiet with people willing to work in with you in the gym. Facilities are always clean. More than satisfied although the water fountains are a tad slow. The machines are really new and all Technogym so connect to your phone. Lovely Karen at the front desk and the nice lad Adam the PT went the extra mile for me and my 11 year old niece this saturday to get us started at the gym during a busy time and it was just fantastic customer service.
