The Blacksmiths continues as one of Northumberland's classic cafes, dependably open year-round with a great selection of home-made sweet and savoury food, served with a smile. The outside tables facing green open fields are amazing on a sunny summer's day! Plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces and parking, reasonable priced and coffee, clean toilet Always when we came of the ferry in NewCastle this is our breakfast stop The fresh pies and scones are delicious its our holiday treat. Not a bad shop. Limited cake/dessert offerings, but they were tasty. Seating area inside and outside were also clean and good. The views across the countryside were great (it was a sunny day!). I did like the bottomless filter option. Decent poached eggs on white bloomer (not sure if the bread is baked on site) but it was delicious, coffees are on the small side lemon drizzle was nice and moist. The blacksmiths could definitely score higher if they had dog friendly area inside, and menus on tables so customers aren't trying to decide at till. Also drinks being made on the spot before serving the next customer doesn't work well, definitely need extra member of staff. The Blacksmith's in Belsay is a popular cafe serving hot breakfast food, hot and cold lunches and a selection of home made cakes and bakes. Popular with locals and passing cyclists, the cafe an get a little bust at times, especially at weekends and during the holidays, however the food and friendly service makes any small wait worthwhile. On our most recent visit we had an excellent smokes salmon sandwich with salad garnish and an equally prawn sandwich. All taken with and a sweet treat. Excellent shop with a great atmosphere and lovely home cooked food. A Latte and a white chocolate and raspberry scone was my choice today - highly recommended! Nice cosy spot for a locally sourced lunch, with options sweet and savoury. The raspberry white chocolate is to die for, as is the price of the toasties. Expect a busier environment than you think on a weekend lunch, as it's a popular spot for cyclists. There is also nice art, I suppose. What a little find after being wet and cold. The staff were absolutely lovely. The sandwich was fresh as was the home made which was delicious and the hit the spot to warm us up. Would really recommend finding this place. Visited on 11/10/23. Very nice. Food was and will be going again in the future. Staff friendly enough and service was good. Car parking available and toilet downstairs. My only gripe was that it was quite noisy. It was fairly busy. In the village of Belsay on the way up to Otterburn 👍 Lovely to be able to get vegan food. Soup, 'cheese' scone and chocolate 😋 Cheerful, helpful staff. We weren't informed that there was any kind of wait until we paid. We were told it was a few minutes......35 minutes later we're still waiting for 3 sandwiches. The staff seem nonplussed that we asked where the order is. Plenty of empty tables. Other diners waiting for ages too. Oh, its arrived! 40 minutes for a fresh, but basic sandwich......
