Restaurant S'Bastberger Stuewel

Saverne, France Alsace restaurant

One of the Best Places To Visits in Imbsheim Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. Five stars for very cosy and authentic interieur and delicious draft beer, minus one star as we were first to arrive with two small kids but waited almost two hours for dinner (and almost impossible to re-order drinks or the bill), minus one star as frogs' legs, escargots and tarte flambee were big dissappointments. Service was friendly but unable to give us helpful recommendations (e.g. we ordered mixed salad as side dish, and should have been warned that this meant a plate with only cheese and one saussage). Rather expensive for local standards (30€/p for two shared entrees, dish + 2-3 drinks, no dessert). Great little country inn, in the tiny village of Imbsheim, at the foot of the Bastberg hill in Alsace. Every window still of this former farm house has a planter full of geraniums & petunias, in the traditional Alsacian style. Inside there is a plethora of witches and witchcraft items, on the theme of ancient Bastberg legends. Food & service are excellent. The selection and quality of the wood-oven baked Flammekueche (tarte flambée) is remarkable. The wines selection is very good, especially in the local category. Every nook and cranny of the building has been used the most efficient way, either for seating or decoration. The owners are to be commended for their tireless efforts to make this a very pleasant place to eat, at reasonable prices, and in a most "gemütlich" atmosphere. Absolutely amazing! I was not expecting too much, given that it's a restaurant in a small village, but this restaurant is, by far, top 3 best restaurants in Alsace! Everything was perfect: the service (very friendly, patient and fast), a nice selection of wines at a very reasonable prices and, of course..the food! We ordered jarret de porc au munster (pork knuckle with munster cheese) and souris d'agneau (lamb shank), alongside roasted potatoes. They were all fabulous, the meat was among the tenderest I have ever had, you barely need a knife to cut it, as it simply falls off the bone. The potatoes were a delight as well! The choice on the menu is great, they surely have something for everyone! We got a dessert at the end (café gourmand), which was, again, above expectations: a wonderful moelleux au chocolat, creme brulée, île flottante and strawberry ice cream, with actual strawberry chunks in it, which, let's face it, is not too common in non-michelin restaurants. The check at the end was more than reasonable for the quality. Overall, fantastic experience! Lovely place, great food and fantastic ambiance. Very authentic food with great quality. I recommend this restaurant to past a great meal ! Top! Super restaurant Took family who were visiting from Canada to taste some authentic tartes flambées on the recommendation of a friend (she said the restaurant has a neat ambiance with the witch and sorcerers decorating the dining room; perfect for "children" of all ages). Tartes flambées were well executed and we liked the special. Although like most Alsatian restaurants, service can be choppy but when the servers had time to check on us, service was fast enough to keep interruptions between tartes and courses to a minimum. Don't get the kids' dessert surprise tho, not worth it.
