Historic Port of Charlestown

Visited here in May 2025. A great little historical with local shops and restaurants. It is worth a and interesting to look at. It even had a honestly box for historic coins. It also has a pay and display car park. If you in the area it is worth a visit. Honestly... Pretty lame. Not much here well priced. It's just a tourist trap. They wanted £21 for fish n chips for example. The is nice but nothing special. Harbours like this are all across the country. What a delightful place to visit, here you can this World Heritage Site. It has a maritime heritage that films and dramas have been filmed here such as Hornblower, Poldark ,The Eagle has landed, Treasure Island,Alice in Wonderland, The Adventure..The Curse of the Midas. There is plenty of places to eat and drink. There is a large museum here the children and adults alike will e joy as there is hands on learning. There is a large carpark and public toilets.£3.00 will get you 2 hours of parking. But you can park there longer. People are friendly too. Highly recommended if your on holiday. Lovely hidden town just outside St Austell. All the food we had here was exemplary, the coffees were superb at Strong & Slow. Lovely beaches, shops and rustic harbour. A beautifully stunning little place, full of character and history! The parking is an utter nightmare though - the single car park they've got there can, in no way, deal with the amount of traffic wanting to park! The single pub is permanently full in hot weather so you're forced down into the bars by the port, which are extortionate! I don't mind paying more for a place where you're a captive market, but this was a little silly. All in all I enjoyed my though and would recommend it to anyone wanting a nice few hours out... Just be prepared to the traffic and parking nightmare! A few bar and stalls, worth a if you're close I’m just never disappointed when I here! So pretty and peaceful. Easy to access car park with lots of choice for food and drink in and around the harbour, plus a long coastal walk adjoining if you’re into that. Definitely a must visit! Whilst touring around Cornwall we visited here on our last night and the village is lovely! The port is very small but picturesque and parking was simple and reasonably priced. The bars and restaurants and food snacks all looked lovely from the outside and we ate in one of the local pubs The Riesling where the staff were very friendly and accommodating and dogs were allowed. Hubby had the burger and fries from the bar menu and I had prawn salad with new potatoes (restaurant was fully booked. Enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the village before heading back. Lovely little .Well worth a visit. The poldark exhibition was very good and cheap £3 each got to go on the boat. Lots of places to drink and eat. Don't forget cash for car parks as no machines seem to take cards.
