It's situated in a village and had a real country feel to it. The Budworth bitter is the best I've ever tasted. Chanced upon this pub while out exploring the countryside and decided to stop in for a quick bite. The pub has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and the were cheerful and helpful, which really added to the overall experience. I had a sandwich with chips and a pint — everything was well made, and the sandwich was quite good. Next time I visit, I’ll definitely try something more substantial from the menu. There’s also a charming outdoor garden with swings, which makes it a spot for families too. Dog and food/staff 🥰 Just stumbled across this country pub. Had 2 enjoyable visits to this Joseph Holt establishment. It's a quirky pub with its own atmosphere. I've had a few meals here over the past year, but today's meal was poor on so many fronts that I left feeling angry and wishing I had sent my food back. First, some positives; the welcome was and the were nice, even if the was really really slow - around an hour for the main to come. My food really was appalling. The starter was Halloumi Popcorn and for around £7 I got six or seven 1cm cubes of Halloumi, deep fried, with a small amount of honey on the side. It was paltry and stingy, and frankly how anyone could think that serving such a pitiful, lazy dish for £7 is beyond me. The fact that mine was made up of several bits that were just hardened batter with no actual halloumi in it made it worse. I wish I had sent it back, but I didn't want to cause a scene at such a happy occasion. My main was the £17.25 Cheese, Onion and Potato pie, which seemed like it had perhaps been left standing for some time before it had come out. The pie needed longer in the oven, the chips seemed like bog standard oven chips and the 'garlic buttered greens' amounted to about 4 stone-cold half-sized green beans covered in a wet piece of sautéed spinach. It was served with a lukewarm cheese sauce that had started to develop a skin. It was obvious that it had been sat for a while before serving. Perhaps I would be more inclined to forgive some of this if the prices weren't so over-inflated, but alas, with a soft drink and the charge, my share of the bill was £35, which for what I had was about as welcome as a punch in the face. I would urge you not to eat here, or to have no hesitation in sending your food back if you are served anything similar to what I have described - I certainly wish I had. We had a wonderful whilst staying in the area. We received a very warm welcome and all the were very and accommodating. The food was delicious, I can highly recommend the lasagne. The range of beer was very impressive and they are super tasty, my husband loved the bitter and I loved the diamond lager. I only wish we lived closer, 2 hours drive is a bit far for a pint. Pretty looking Pub from outside, probably for pub lunch dog walkers in summer but for an evening out meal totally under par! I tried to book a table via their online system earlier today. Was intending having Sunday Lunch with my wife, we had been numerous times. The online booking system is supposed to send a confirmation ar decline notice. We waited at home for 45 mins, no notification came through so we decided to take a chance and travel. Upon arrival i was told there was not tables available. I asked why nobody had replied to the booking request and that we had travelled 25mins to get there. I suggested thats not how people expect to be treated. The manager just looked at me and shrugged, no apologies, no reasons, no solution offered.. We left and went to another place where there was tables available and the customer was better. Cock o Budworth needs to improve on its comms, management and customer approach. We have travelled for 3 weeks in the UK, and this pub by far has the best atmosphere, food and bar we have been to! We had an absolutely wonderful to The Cock O’ Budworth. From the moment we arrived, the were welcoming, attentive, and genuinely – nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour, clearly made with care and quality ingredients. Portions were generous without sacrificing on taste, and everything came out piping hot and perfectly cooked. It’s the kind of menu where you’d happily try absolutely everything. The atmosphere is warm, traditional, and inviting – exactly what you want from a country pub. Combined with the excellent service, it made for a really enjoyable and relaxing meal.
