Great Victorian Hut, views are amazing and stunning. An hour of 4wd low range on rocky/steep sections from Kevington and 3 hrs from Mt Matlock fire tower. It's beautiful but probably not worth for the drive from south. What an amazing view! With a full Telstra signal, this spot definitely makes the drive worthwhile! Great hut with an amazing view We visited on a warm sunny day, the view was incredible and the person in the fire watch tower was friendly and waved to us which was lovely. The track we took to get there definitely requires a 4 wheel drive with low range for the steep inclines and you needed good ground clearance for the washouts but overall, the track was well maintained and not too difficult. Great view and hut. Do not attempt driving up there unless you have a real 4wd with low ratio and good ground clearance. There are no toilets, so do the right thing and walk to the bush on the other side, dig a hole and cover it over. The amount of used toilet paper blowing around is a disgrace. Someone even had a dump at the back of the hut without burying it! No wonder the government wants to make this a national park. Stunning view False advertising, it was certainly NOT terrible. 😠 It was beautiful. Came here with a group, snow chasing. The enclosed hut with a wood burner gave relief from the cold and wind. No snow this time, two days too late. Great views when it’s clear. Photos don’t do it justice Nicely restored, an adventure to get here, but if you have the time and an appropriate 4WD vehicle and experience, it's worth it Simple drive and a great day out only a couple of hours from Melb and even have phone reception !
