Amazing place - especially in Winter !!! There are so many hikes available when not covered in snow, to get here the road is unsealed, 2wd or 4wd os fine. The area is well maintained. Hike in and camp areas available. Make sure you bring plenty of food and drink as nothing is available on site. Toilets are available at the start only (drop). If you're lucky, you'll see lots of animals along your route The walk to Mushroom rocks is a beautiful one. It can be strenuous and muddy when wet. I wouldn't recommend it for little kids, some older people or those not sure on foot. It's a beautiful walk though and rivals the Grampians with its unique granite boulders and beautiful trees. It's worth the effort for sure. Mt Baw Baw is good for for skiing and snowboarding, you can hire all the gear at the ski fields and you can hire chains for your car at Tanjil Bren which is the small town just before entering the Baw Baw state park .......................................... ..Mount St. Gwinear...Lovely place to go on a marked walking trail in the snow, costs nothing to park there, there is also toboggan runs when the is good.... Good for families to play in the or build a snowman😁 Went here early September 2023 So on a yolo went out of the road of Walhalla northbound in my Mazda sedan . Somehow ended up in the mountains where it was snowing very lightly but it was amazing , no one was around and seeing was magical Some road hazards on the way but a very slow drive with tons of pot holes , freezing cold weather , rain and snow In shocked my tyres didn’t go flying but I think the next town I ended up in was Licola ? Saw like one car in the middle of nowhere Great to see for free , I’m too poor to pay to get into the village A beautiful snowy destination at an hour and of drive from Traralgon. There's a restroom and warm room at the base and different working and skiing areas. Must go. We had a lovely walk through a well made path. The scenery was lovely with all the late spring growth. Mount Baw Baw is a fantastic place to visit and its only 3 hours drive from Melbourne. If you are going to see snow, check weather updates regularly and make sure you have right snowgear. You can borrow chains at the entrance and get it fixed from them. Went on a hunt and found this place, what a gem of a place. Plenty of play area and a few toboggan runs. Walk up to the lookout is only 600m but is tricky with young kids in the snow. If coming up in the snow, bring chains if you don't have a 4x4. Saw a few cars get stuck. Simply stunning, 20kms of trail running through bush and snow! Gorgeous place and well worth the visit.. be prepared for all conditions as it can change quickly. Nature at its best. Excellent family friendly facilities to take kids to the snow. I was really impressed at how well this was organised by Parks Vic. I would recommend taking your own food as the food van was extremely slow, ran out of food by 2pm and the coffee was terrible. First time up to Mt St Gwinear. What an awesome and stunningly beautiful area. Two great tobogganing slopes for the kids and a 600m walk through to an absolutely gorgeous white wonderland! Great Family Australia Day activities. Although the restaurant would have been a good place, it was catered for well and the kids seemed to love the Slip n Slide.
