Your staff seem to be quite pleasant people, but they seem to be less than professionally trained, lots of things like being pointed to the back of my chair for hanging my long overcoat, hat and scarf and not immediately taking them to hang elsewhere. A general atmosphere of indifference seemed to exist. The food was notable but for the wrong reasons. The breadbasket was just a group of chunked crusts, I found my starter to be OK’ish, tuna on egg but it was quite dry and had obviously prepared sometime before. My friend’s starter however, which was supposed to be nems on a Thai salad was not very good, tired lettuce oily dressing, cold chewy nems. My main course was beef, and it was very and cooked perfectly, but the chips were not very – it’s always a mistake to serve chips made from unpeeled potatoes and these were also too in section with lots of very pieces. Serving hot coffee in a handless glass is just not very clever, particularly when it’s so bitter. I don’t like giving bad reviews particularly for Gayda, I certainly don’t like the public display of criticism as on TripAdvisor I think that’s extremely unhelpful. But your Gayda, you’re a little more expensive that some lunch time venues and we might have greater expectations of you. Having the TV on like some sports bar is not where you should be, having tablecloths on rather than bare tables would help because you can’t have a simple “café” theme in such a venue, it doesn’t fit, it’s too elegant a space. I really am sorry to be so critical, normally after a bad meal you simply don’t go back but I live around here, I intend to visit your again in the future. Amazing panoramic view of the Pyrénées, vines, and olive groves. Wonderful food, delicious flavors and beautiful presentation. We got the fixed menu that came with a tuna starter, Caesar salad, fish or duck plate, and a dessert. Organic wine from the domaine was available and we tried two of the whites. Servers were super friendly and patient with us Americans insisting we try to speak French. Cassoulet was hot but confit was not ‘fall off the bone’ cooked all the way. Very very piece of sausage less than 2 inches…we thought why bother. Glass of wine included with the menu was forgotten. Involtini chicken was very dry and tasted like a frozen, pre-breaded product. Sauce with charred onions was more of a mayonnaise than a cheese/cream sauce. Onions (albeit small) overpowered the dish. Pumpkin puree was very as was the ice cream and starter salad. My husband wanted a steak. Too bad we were never informed of the steak special and saw it on the board at another table when we departed. Not a very experience I am sorry to say. Great 3 course menu with wine (Domaine Gayda Flying Solo) and coffee for 24 euros. Could not fault the service / staff. quite busy so nice atmosphere. The wine is second to non. The young staff were very attentive and professional. I am almost reluctant to write such a review just in case everyone then flocks to this resturant, it truly deserves an add to your resturants to visit list. The evening started off on the wrong foot: our table was placed under a lamp that kept flickering non-stop. An irritating distraction that did little to add to the ambiance. After asking to be moved, we were given a table right next to the kitchen and service station. Convenient for the staff, perhaps, but far from ideal for a relaxed dining experience. Halfway through the evening, the music suddenly stopped. A detail, but you immediately noticed how the atmosphere deflated. What didn’t help either were the flies that seemed constantly drawn to our food. inconveniences, yet in a experience they pile up quickly. Service felt inconsistent. A cappuccino turned out not to be a cappuccino at all, but coffee topped with whipped cream — despite this being explained beforehand. It gave the impression that convenience was chosen over care. And then the food itself: surprisingly good. The duck was excellent, and the Caesar salad hit all the right notes. The steak, however, was underwhelming; unremarkable and somewhat flat in flavor. Unfortunately, the evening took a serious turn when one of our party fell ill after eating the beef tartare — a mistake no can afford to make. And yet, the location is stunning. Which makes it all the more important to get the basics right. The potential is there, but dining out is about more than just well-prepared food; it’s about the overall experience. And that’s exactly where this missed the mark. A talented kitchen, but a messy experience and a severe food safety issue mean I won’t be planning a return visit anytime soon.
