I recently visited here with Haunted Scouse. I was impressed with the size of the and how open everywhere was. You really do get to explore 95% of the premises. There are a couple of rooms which are private and locked. Also, the owners are in the process of renovating, so there will most likely be ongoing work depending on when you visit. For example, when we visited, they had just completed some work in the old mens dormitory. People have to understand that the interior of the may have changed in some areas this might have been necessary for sustainability reasons, But I feel like you can get an accurate representation of how the used to be. Moving through the premises, our group felt various feelings in different areas. We felt oppression in the masters chamber in the middle of the and then almost calmness in the now male dormitory (which was the old board room). I actually stayed over after the ghost hunt. I felt fine in the dorm. (Despite being the only one there!) The organisers of the paranormal night block booked it and gave people the chance to stay over, but no one else fancied it and as I came on public transport I was stuck. So I had to stay. The facilities of the dormitory block are good. It includes a big kitchen, with everything that you need to make meals, showers with plenty of warm water, heaters and blankets for those cold nights! The information video in the visitors centre was well made and informative. It really made you realise how bad some people had it. It hit home the sad reality of families who had made the decision to come to the workhouse and had been torn apart, through no fault of their own. John, the on-site caretaker, was and shared a few stories about the place. I'm looking forward to seeing what plans they have for the workhouse because they have done so much to it already, to save it from ruins, and it seems like they have got big plans! The site is clearly in the process of renovation and will be interesting to see when it's fully completed. There are areas with a few different 'shop' areas in and an art gallery. There's also a small visitors centre with a video presentation. I have to say I have some very special places I love to visit over the UK but this is my favourite. This weekend felt like home, beautiful landscape and amazing people. Highly recommend visiting and especially any events or festivals that are being held there. Highly recommended. Free admission. In the middle of nowhere. Noone about. Small room with a film that tells the history of the workhouse. We wandered about the site and sadly it's starting to look quite neglected, looks like various projects have been tried over the years to keep it running. Brilliant escape room. My 12yr old had his party here. Absolutely excellent escape room. All 6 boys thoroughly enjoyed it and the clues were spot on and help was on hand when needed. The boys didn't break out in the specified time, however more minutes were won by singing, and to breakout before the end of the extra time gave them such a sense of achievement. Brilliant communication. We had food in another room. Such a fantastic place on our doorstep. Thankyou! Visited on a cold rainy day and thoroughly enjoyed it. I give it four stars as it is very much a work in progress. However there's plenty of information and a video in the welcome area at the start. The cafe gets 5 stars. Great service by friendly helpful staff. The food is very nicely done and fantastic value. Hot drinks value too. Recommend this and will return to see it's progress when more work is done.
