I have not been to this place in so long, that I am sure the last time I visited it was not as fancy as it felt this time. I was alittle confused because the food was so tasty, and felt so upmarket. Yet we had shouting locals sat at the bar as if it was still the traditional drinkers/workermans type pub. The prices can be alittle off putting for what you get, especially when you only get 1 Confit Potato. My feedback would be there they should provide more for the price. This didn't bother me too much, because the food was honestly sublime! The only thing that really did bother me and causes the 4/5 star was the lack of parking. The menu isn’t too big here which is always a sign, as they do everything really well. The Welsh Pork with Apple was delicious, slow and just fell apart, with perfectly crackling. The A La Carte deal before 6pm is a really idea and value, as I don’t normally have deserts, but it was to try them. Our server Ellie was very friendly and helpful. Nice little pub with an excellent menu. I have the scotch eggs are start and my wife has the arancini follow by by the salmon and the duck. Both excellent. Unbelievable! Amazing Gastro-pub style food. I was very impressed. They catered for our toddler, and also didn't mind having our new born baby and pram. lunchtime deals on the menu. Will definitely be coming back. 5 stars Thus is a superb restaurant. The ambience is so welcoming and friendly. Very relaxing experience. 3 adults and 9 year old dined for lunch on 1st of August We had rustic focacio starters and Welsh belly pork, as dishes under the 2 course Pre Fixe deal. The food was supreme, beautifully prepared and presented. Waiting staff were gracious and helpful.our 9 year old enjoyed the Welsh beef burger I cannot praise the Plough and Harrow enough.Prices are very reasonable and the cuisine is superb. I Consistently stunning food every time we visit. Everything is full of flavour and well portioned. If you enjoy quality food then make sure you make time to come here. My personal favourite has to be the pork but on my last visit I tried the steak which was just as amazing. Whatever you choose from the menu you will definitely enjoy it. Wonderful food, atmosphere and service. Very fresh and tasty products perfectly cooked. value for money, A little gem in South Wales. This is an absolute gem and a must try. The food was exceptional. Ellie our server was a sweet heart. We had a time and highly recommend this fantastic place. food and service. Thanks Elle! Appreciate your and conversation! Update: Went back recently, 11 months after the review below. I’d given it 5 stars and was incredibly impressed! Sadly 11 months later that wasn’t the case. We had starters, mine was a chorizo scotch egg, which was massively under seasoned. It had no flavour at all, just texture. The saddest part was the chicken roast. All the seasoning seemed to have gone into the chicken in the form of way too much salt. I ate as much as i could but left needing pints of water. It was sad and very underwhelming. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but I also don’t like seeing somewhere that has been great, slip into the world of mediocre. It could have been a bad day, it was an unseasonably hot day, but on this occasion, the balance was off. Sad but recoverable. Hope to be back soon. Original Review: I love a dinner. I mean I LOVE a dinner… The Plough and Harrow is the best pub roast. Pure and simple. Book in advance to avoid disappointment. Right from the starters… which were beautifully presented & flavourful, the tone was set. We had the Welsh lamb & the pork. Both meats just melted & the flavour was incredible! Stunning potatoes & a special shout out to the parsnips with a little magic twist. The stuffing, the crackling, the veg… it’s the complete package. If you’re in South Wales, this is the place to go for a Sunday roast. If you’re not in South Wales, go. My only negative critique is on the dessert side of things: the base of the Lemon Meringue tart was disappointing. While the lemon meringue had that balance of sweet and tangy, the base was tough & somewhere between cardboard and plastic & sadly ruins a really nice dessert. However… the clotted fudge ice cream is a must! The pub itself is light, fresh & inviting. The staff were lovely, friendly & very patient with my overly excited and indecisive partner. Though with a menu that is simply mouth watering, it’s hard to be decisive. We are really looking forward to going back. Rated as a 4* but it’s really a 3.5. Our food didn’t quite live up to the high expectations that we had for the Plough and Harrow. Some of the food was really good, but other dishes were a little disappointing and I could personally have better at home. (Eg the curried leg of lamb - the meat was slightly dry, the curry sauce was too thick and sparse to counter the meat and the curry flavour didn’t seem to have penetrated into the lamb - suggesting that it hadn’t been marinated for long enough. Oh and the accompanying onion bhajis were pretty rubbish!) Good dishes were things like the scotch egg starter and the Japanese themed lamb. The was ok, pretty from most members of the waiting staff. A little slow for staff to return to take dessert orders which was unsurprising as we were tucked out of the way, but slightly annoying as we had kids who needed to get home to bed. Overall, I wouldn’t be expecting the best food on the Gower, I think there are a few places we’re you can get something better. But it’s worth a visit and the atmosphere and buzz is good. Fantastic Sunday roast, well worth the trip out from Swansea. I had the Ultimate and it was quite a feast, a generous portion of meat and trimmings. The chocolate/Kahlua cheesecake was also quite nice. Would definitely recommend making the trip out if you have a free Sunday! Probably one of THE best Sunday roasts I have ever had! Exceptional quality, totally with a mix of melt in your mouth beef, belly pork and crackling to die for, cauliflower and leek cheese, sooo delicious! 10/10 and the gravy was superb, closed my eyes and I was transported back to my nannas kitchen, and she had THE best gravy!! Highly, highly recommend x Had a wonderful lunchtime meal of cod and chips, served by Dan, very nice would recommend a visit. Some of the dishes were but was painfully slow on both evenings we dined here. The chips were cold and greasy on night one and the was variable depending on who appeared at your table. We also had a rib of beef that was mostly fat and gristle which was fed back to no response which at a £12 surcharge was disappointing. The cask beer was fantastic Had my birthday lunch here, and it was fantastic. The restaurant is quaint and welcoming. The portions are a tidy size, top! Our server, Ellie, was absolutely brilliant. Very attentive and provided superb customer service! Thank you, Ellie! 🥳 Superb pub food A step up from your average pub food. We’ve always had a meal and very lunch deals. Very friendly staff. See you soon. Went for wine and dine deal on Thursday, treated myself to the Belted Galloway rib eye steak, gorgeous cut of beef superbly complimented with a au poivre sauce, triple chips were hot and crispy and retained heat throughout meal, great from Vicky in a comfortable atmosphere, couldn't fault it. As always, Vicky, Alyce and Dan made a last minute reservation very special. Steak, as usual.
