Even the disabled toilet radiator was turned off. Had a meal and went home for pud and coffee. Freezing 🥶 Food was and quite generous portions. A real of an old English pub. Very quick and excellent service. Nice outdoor seating area. Popped in for partners mums birthday lunch treat. and food was excellent as always. Fantastic choice on menu. Had a lovely late lunch/early dinner with family. Chicken stuffed with haggis and a whisky sauce, on a bed of mash. Cooked fresh, the chicken was beautifully cooked and moist, the haggis was nice, and the sauce was too. There are plenty of delicious ales to be had too. Service was very good, and there were a couple of locals to add a little to the place. Lovely cosy on this visit by the fire. Attentive and gorgeous food. Cater well for allergies and intolerances for adults and children and they have a separate gluten free menu. Looks like the have deserts too but we didn't go into that this time Also cater for vegans and vegetarians With allergies contact them in advance as they might do something a little extra if needed but obviously need notice. Will be back Great country pub with side restaurant. Live fire, old furniture, great real ales and draught beers. Lots of outside sitting plus massive parking. A must see when you are in Raby. A lovely hidden Gem. Lovely warm welcome, very staff. Fabulous food and a range of beers. Generous portion sizes make the prices better value for money. We will return. We went here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the food, and service. It is a beautiful pub with different places for eating and full of atmosphere. The were very and attentive. I would highly recommend this pub. Visited for food and drink, food was quality over quantity and very enjoyable. Their cask selection was made up of local independents and well conditioned. Always have to have a Trappers hat when so close to the source. Went on a quiet Thurs eve spur of the moment, and what a gem, deceiving place as it looks small from outside but food is really big out back, decor and environment. The food was varied and was reasonable in price, we had scotch egg and beetroot and avocado tartar to start, a normal burger and the thatch burger as mains and that was enough we were stuffed couldn’t eat it all, the was and chatty but not over bearing. We will definitely be back again!! We visited the Wheatsheaf for the first time, but it won't be the last. It is a lovely place with lots of history and character. The were very helpful and friendly. Lovely cottage style pub and beautiful setting. It wasn't very busy which was surprising but it's Jan and a long month for many. Service was funny, engaging and from everyone who attended the table. Happy to give honest recommendations and absolutely made us feel part of the place. Starters were varied and interesting. Highly recommend the Duck Hash Cakes. Main courses again, varied & interesting, with a separate specials menu. I chose the steak which was exceptionally cooked but I must confess to regretting not ordering the Pork Medallions that looked (and tasted) absolutely exceptional. Desserts were fun, tasty and presented like everything else... with genuine care, attention & class. Can't wait to visit again and happy to recommend. We came from liverpool as my friend had requested an old fashioned pub with an open and food for her birthday and the wheatsheaf delivered on every level. I booked via email and requested a table by a fire, when we arrived they showed us to a table facing the in the area. The food and the was amazing, we had starter and mains then moved into the cozy pub room to enjoy a drink by the fire. It was exactly what we were looking for. The outdoor looked great, we will be back when the weather is better for a daytime walk with a stop off for food and drinks in the beer garden It was lovely to find this gem of a pub. I say gem because it is still a pub before anything else. The old bar is wonderfully traditional with NO modern distractions, yet the has been tastefully updated within an atmospheric setting. The food was excellent, and our real ales well kept. A beautiful garden and friendly, with-it management/staff topped everything off. Just one small caveat: prices are on the expensive side. However, if that's what it takes to be a model of how pubs can thrive in the modern world without losing their traditional charm and purpose, then so be it. What a disappointing visit to this establishment today, we have been there before and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, however today was very different, we had my 18month old granddaughter with us who was making noise, but as any parent will know how difficult it is to try and keep a little one totally silent is not easy. We were basically told by a very rude family that they will give us some parenting advice, how dare they!!! But what was disappointing was the establishment agreed with them and said the little one was too loud, this family also insulted us numerous times and nothing was said to them. We asked when we booked about the little one and told them about her age and they were happy then, there were also kids screaming and making noise in the other room but that was okay. Basically if you are not wanting a baby to make a noise then don't accept them in the restaurant, this way it will stop situations like this and inevitably upset to a young mum who had to listen to the insults. If you have small children I wouldn't bother with this place, they shown us their worth. With help from the we booked for 22 of us to celebrate our sixtieth wedding anniversary. We pre-ordered menu choices for a lunchtime meal and greeted our guests at the bar. Everyone was made to feel welcome and the attention by all members of was wonderful. Our offspring were allowed to visit ahead to decorate the tables - a great gesture which added to the atmosphere. Food choices were delivered promptly and the quality was outstanding. We were able to linger after the meal and this was appreciated and enabled us to chat to those that had driven from afar. In short we are delighted that we chose the Cowshed for our celebration and would highly recommend to anyone planning a similar event.
