Great place for walking or running. The Peatland is located just off the M1 at junction 13. There's a visitor centre, good carpark, miniature train, children's play area, toilets, two nature reserves, a bog garden, ponds and a lake. There are 5 colour coded ranging from 1 to 5 miles. The red trail is 5 and takes you around the whole park. The play area, visitor centre, and area are handily close to the carpark. Good to visit any time of the year, but would be best in the summertime. Lovely around the with the longest being 5 miles. Allegedly it should take 1.5 hrs to do the 5 miles. Lies, pure lies lol! There’s plenty of parking and toilets at the visitors centre which were open even though the visitors centre was closed on Easter Sunday. Great play for the kids too. are not really suitable for the less abled bodied due to a mix of track - tarmac, boardwalk, stony uneven parts and wood chipping. There’s a that takes you around the that you need tickets for - unsure of the price. Some of the signage needs refreshed and cleaned - hard to read some signage and the red markers aren’t so red now. There’s a few seats along the earlier parts of the but few later on when you probably need it. Also, it would be helpful if there was a some indication on the long route of how far you’ve got to go as a motivator. The car looks like it has security cameras up which is really helpful. A free that protects some of our precious natural environment. Suitable for all ages. Loads of trails. Larger ones probably not suitable for prams in parts. Lots of benches for a picnic. Nice long walks, several of which the longest trail is upwards of 5 miles. All well marked. Will suit most people of varying fitness as there are no steep inclines, paths are all basically flat. Word of Warning don't do as I did on my first visit and go in near to dark, underestimating the length of your trail. I just made it back before dark, so be mindful. Despite being so close to the M1 it really is a place of solitude. There was even a mini train, as evidenced by tracks, but it no longer runs unfortunately. If you look it up on utube you'll see what it was like. There is a fun playpark for kids, so this is an ideal dayout for families. There are also well maintained toilet facilities. Such a joy Lovely park, easily accessible off the motorway. Variety of routes with different types of trails, makes for an interesting walk. The playpark is great. Some of the signage along the could do with a refresh and a clean, and the wasn't running due to fallen branches from the storm, but the place makes for a really nice day out. Gorgeous big ideal for a short or long walk & bringing the dog! 🌳🐶Coffee van is a lovely touch too.☕️ Lots of bins around the entrance but not on the walking routes so much so bear that in mind.🗑️ Good toilet facilities.🚻 Lots of benches which would be great for a or bbq in the nicer weather. 🍔🧺Already can’t wait to go back here after our first visit today. 😃 A favourite place for a walk all seasons - anything from 20 minutes to over an hour. All paths in good condition and flat. Many fully paved accessible paths for pushchairs, wheelchairs etc. Boardwalks and forest also on site. Great playground. Public toilets. Great boardwalk in the peatland. Many tarmacked for scooting/cycling and everything pram friendly. 100% recommended Really nice place for a walk. Plenty of room to explore and run around. Anyone interested in nature or the outdoors would enjoy it. Kids loved the ducks and watching dragonflies, butterflies and caterpillars. Just a pity the wasn't running. Lovely, sunny, hot day in the middle of summer holidays with plenty of families about, missing a trick. Also the main toilets were out of order due to "technical difficulties" but they have a couple of portaloos and accessible toilet was open. Great I only managed short of 4miles and there's heaps more trails. The waymarking could be improved but I guess some of the fun is not knowing where you are. A wonderful for long walks, with dogs and without. Lots of interesting things to learn as you walk around, historical and natural. Forest, bogland, meadows, areas, playground, a small coffee dock, everything you could want and no steep inclines 🙂 Peatlands is a captivating sanctuary, offering a unique escape into nature.
