Puis deux pavillons situés de part et d'autres,dont on peut monter à l'étage. Et au fond du cimetière,la croix du Sacrifice,symbole religeux,sur le dessus de laquelle figure l'épée de Saint-Georges,pointe vers le bas,pour rendre hommage à la bravoure des combattants. Et naturellement,tous les alignements de croix,qui marquent les 2049 tombes dont 1694 soldats canadiens et 15 aviateurs,3 soldats britanniques et 1 Français.Le cimetière bien entretenu par la Commission des sépultures de guerre du Commonwealth,offre un site calme et paisible,magnifiquement arboré et fleuri,qui est propice pour le recueillement,et rendre hommage aux soldats tués au combat. You will be lost for words, filled with respect and humbled by this beautifully kept for the Canadians that sacrificed everything for our freedom. It is without doubt one of the finest cemetaries in the whole of Normandy, the American Cemetary has its grandure and its scale of 9,000+ graves, which does take your breath away. But Beny-Sur-Mer has a unique feel, even more unique as a Canadian. My journey was to honour two Canadian brothers who stood on this land to liberate her, they trudge the fields around here and made sacrifices few have to make. Their comrades are buried here, men they maybe knew, or trained with or served with over the years as soldiers. It was a humbling place to start my journey on that first day, just down the road in Beny-Sur-Mer Edward one of the soldiers who's journey I was honouring, served in the very village on the evening of D-Day 6th June 1944. Then further afield in Basly he served in the Aid Station set up in the church in the centre of Basly, what went through my mind stood here was these men, these brave souls laying here could have been touched by Edwards hands in an attempt to preserve their life. Edward was a Medic with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp 23rd Field Ambulance Unit, a man who would have been under fire giving aid and comfort to his fellow man. How many of these brave souls did he comfort in their time of need. When you visit here please remember them, look at the images posted and remember brave men like Sergeant G Leveridge who left a wife and daughter back in Canada and would never see them grow. This is a very solumn beautiful and peaceful setting, it is one place I visit time and again,stunning. Powerful, impactful, moving and so, so important. Beyond visiting Juno Beach, this demonstrates the true cost, the fulsome price paid by many, many brave Canadian soldiers. Tragic, how many of the graves show that these boys, as young as 18, died for freedom. Bring Kleenex. A beautifully kept and manicured memorial to all those Canadians lost in battle at Juno Beach. A bit of a drive in the countryside but worth it. Over 2,000 of the best blood of Canada lie here. They all died in the early phase of the Normandy Campaign, in various locations throughout the region. They eventually were all brought to be interred into this sacred ground, one of two major Canadian Cemeteries in Normandy. This is a wonderful place for reflection and to honour those who paid the ultimate price for the we enjoy today. That freedom, as made obvious by the sheer number of markers in this, and countless other similar cemeteries, is never free. Gorgeous tribute to the soldiers that lost their lives near here. The grounds keeping and flowers are stunning. Well laid out and kept cemetery. Good views from tower and very poignant seeing the details with their ages and regiments etc. Lovely setting. Beautiful cemetery, well cared for, lovely location overlooking fields with the ocean at the horizon. It was a bit cloudy which made that view quite heavenly. Many graves have personal inscriptions, very moving. An unforgetable experience for Canadians. And so many stories connected these tombstones. What a very moving place. We did some research on the regiments of the 3rd Canadian division and regiments prior to coming out to Juno beach. The is an amazing place to pay your respect to the brave Canadians who lost their lives for our freedom. Visited in February 2025, my grandfather Is buried here after being killed July 12, 1944. There were two lively maintenance people working on the landscaping, which was impeccable. Very moving. Beautiful, somber, and moving.
