Terrible! I can't believe we paid €14 to in a muddy field. We won't be back! In October, the are closed, (we didn't know before) so all you get for your money is a place to park... no hard standing available so on the grass/mud, we nearly got stuck even though we chose one of the less muddy places. This was once a nice municipal campsite, now ruined. The loser is the town of Chateaudun, since we won't be back, to use the shops and restaurants as we have over the last 10 or more years . Avoid this site. We were really looking forward to this site... lovely scenic location. Arrival quick and easy. The was a little overgrown but we expect that at this time of year. HOWEVER, a pack of attacked us shortly after arrival!!! Initially it was one or two, we saw the owner and she was polite enough - we shewed them away and all seemed fine. We've learned during out time in France to bark back and the soon leave. My husband took Bonnie, our Labrador, out to stretch her legs etc and the immediately returned, barking, snarling and baring their teeth. Husband ran straight back to the van to get Bonnie out of harms way. We went to approach thr dog owner to ask if she could put them indoors or on a lead maybe (we don't know what the laws are for in France) while we walked Bonnie, but before we got anywhere even more came for us - 6 in total. They were extremely violent and aggressive and the owner did nothing. They were circling us and lunging for us. We tried the 'big brown bear' approach and growled back at them with no luck. One of them got me briefly. Luckily I have heavy trousers on today, not the shorts and dresses I've lived in for the last 70+ days - but I still got a nasty little blood blister on the back of my knee - we were ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED!!! To be fair to CCP, as far as we could tell, the owner of these was not on the and has nothing to do with it, but from some of the feedback we've seen she has been adjacent to the since at least last summer and other people have had similar experiences- if nothing else she was trespassing on the CCP with her when they attacked us! There is a lovely children's playground on the site, right by the entrance - seriously I can't bear to imagine what these monsters would do to a child!!! I think until this disgusting excuse for a dog owner is moved it would be safer to avoid the site. We left immediately - terrified! Sorry CCP but you are probably the only people who can influence the Owner to get this woman removed! We're now parked up elsewhere, with no for the night; but safer than staying at de mon Village. We have no photos of the site, we weren't there long enough to take any, and in the moment, fighting the off and escaping was more important! Really unhappy experience - that could have been catastrophic! UPDATE: Thank you for responding. We do hope you are able to get this woman moved. Just to clarify a critical point; the attack to place on the CCP inside the barrier, and the were attacking us, not fighting with one another. Adequate for an overnight stop, showers were ok, never any wi-fi although it is advertised, plenty of spaces in September Aire de car park, endroit calme, spacieux, magnifique au bord de l'eau The used to be a municipal site, now car have taken it over be aware that no are available, I hadn't seen this and if there were we would have stayed longer as Chateaudun is a lovely place to explore, the cave are fascinating and being only 1 of 3 similar caves in the world Perfectly adequate for an overnight stop. Must be said that the showers were particularly dirty. They dont drain properly, so all the dirt gathers inside the cubicle. Not a showstopper though. Our first time here, very nice site, clean showers with hot water, toilets and washing up area. Place for grey waste and to top up our water. In a lovely are but pity we didn't have time to visit the surrounding area. Août 2023 As of the 24th June this is still closed. car who have run it for 2 years or so show it closed and don’t know when it will reopen. The local tourism office also don’t know? The was in a declining state ever since CCP took over and with no supervision this often wet was subjected to idiots getting bogged down and tearing the pitches up trying to get unstuck. To add further to the puzzle the Aire de close to the river has also closed??? Very nice with good self service and nice quiet surroundings, however the road to it was very narrow for a motorhome and it's quite a distance from the town centre. Note to motorhome owners there is and easy route to this camp ground and one that goes through fairly tight roads in the town... take the easy one if that's a concern... Excellent, great facilities. Easy walk or cycle to the chateau. Cycling to McDonald's and Burger king only 10-15mins. Très bien Quiet just on the outskirts of Châteaudun. The were clean and well maintained. Good sized pitches. Electronic entry up to midnight makes it convenient for late arrivals. + landschaftlich schön gelegen - Sanitäranlagen extrem schmutzig, keine Reinigung innerhalb von 5 Tagen Standzeit trotz Information an die Betreiber Could not initially access the because ‘the server had gone down’. But the customer service agent on the end of the line was friendly and efficient. However, the hedges between the pitches are growing un trimmed and untidy. Filthy floors in the blocks. Empty soap dispensers (if they aren’t going to be refilled, don’t have them. Simple really). Kids using the blocks as a play ground. The kids teachers/supervisors using the block as their staff rest room …smoking and drinking coffee in the lock - when there is a perfectly adequate facility for this on site. Overflowing litter bin…attracting rats. Creeping molds and damp in the block ceiling. A continuously screeching cohort of school children arrived - seemingly unsupervised adequately by their teachers (see above) - disturbing the right to peace and quiet by the other customers…some of whom left soon after the kids arrived en mass. In short…a once locally well managed and pleasant has been taken over by faceless corporate bureaucrats with no evidence of adequate local control or management. A pretty soulless campsite. We won’t be rushing back. This is not a good advert for this beautiful town either - if this is the first experience a visitor will get. Incidentally, visitors with tents must love this as it’s effectively free for them to use. They can their cars outside, pitch their tents, and access the hot and cold water and electricity available on site…for nothing. A camper here had propped open the block door to run an electricity cable to their tent! Again, this wouldn’t happen if their was a hint of any supervision on the site. PS. It gets worse. My wife couldn’t get our car through the barrier to get out and go shopping and two cars couldn’t get IN even though they had topped up ‘membership’ cards. What an utter farce. This is the eleventh we have stayed in this summer on our tour - so lots of others to compare it with…not good.
