Beautiful place with trekking trails. Absolutely must see when in VulcanEifel area. Beutifull and peacefull area for relaxing. Little beach. Some fishermen too. This is a good spot to cool down. Not the easiest to find and parking can be challenging but fun nevertheless. Took the dogs but there is not a great area for them. Worth a visit though, just get there early enough for a good tanning spot. Die Landschaft ist sehr schön You can swim here only it is very confusing. You ain't allowed to swim outside of the fence. But when you swim further out in the lake you can legally swim outside the fences? Its hard to explain. But i would recommend you dont go to the part where you have to pay just go around that part and enjoy the lake without paying. Also you van jump from old trees there. In the past we enjoyed visiting Meerfelder Maar for a nice walk with our dog's, around the lake. After Covid19, Meerfelder Maar has become a very unpleasant place to be. The people have become sour and unfriendly for tourist. Suddenly there are all kinds of unfriendly forbidden signs. Local Mountain bikers pushing you off the walking trail. If you don't move over quick enough, they start swearing at you. We have encountered a so called "Ordnungs-dienst" who is intimidating, aggressive and rude. The encounter we had, we where pushed off the walking trail towards the Parking, by a green Jeep Renegade with a loud sounding broken exhaust and trailer. Pushing the gaspeddel flat-out scaring off the dog. Driving like Nicky Lauda. When we tried to make a picture of the license plate, the aggressive person returned and blocked our free passage of the Parking and threaten to take our phone. So sad. Only when the person was told we will call the police, he took off. Clearly an unfit person for a job like this!. Watch out for this aggressive person, who drive's around with a Green Jeep Renegade with trailer. It was the last time we visited Meerfelder Maar for a short holiday. Nasty, unfriendly people over there. Beautiful family-friendly trail.
