Changed from the past open which was a full, busy place with plenty of stalls. There are a lot of building works ongoing with the Town Hall. Sadly another example of a once bustling outdoor and indoor that once drew large crowds to the town (especially on a Friday) that's been ruined by "experts" within the council. The indoor is currently closed, there are plans we understand to convert the indoor (or part?) into a library. There is however a small outdoor area (sometimes used for small events) with some very good permanent units, butcher's (outstanding), key cutting etc, also some seating. Vast experience of this over 40 yrs. It used to have a magical character which has been ruined by Bridged council who closed the historical indoor to force the stallholders to take their new expensive shops outside. Which they've done, reluctantly. Its all very nice and clean and modern.....but will it last? Time will tell. There is a Friday outdoor here which is good when the weather is. Having said all that, Its still worth s try. You may be surprised by seeing a twinkle of magic returning. But not thanks to Bridged council. Small with post office, bus stand cafe book shop key cutting barber shop and some specialised type of Welsh foods i. e welsh chase meat and honey. On shop sells sewing knitting accessories ect worth a visit with two three benches which could be used as meet up place may be someone special or lonely person Lots of options. It's hanging on in there, council need to offer some kind of incentives to encourage new shops to open , maesteg is a bustling little village and a few more shops in the would be the icing on the cake. Lots of different stalls good variety Lovely little market. Although very different from what it was 20 years ago it's still worth a visit. Make sure to pop into Casey's cafe for a cuppa and a fry up. You won't regret it. INDOOR OPEN DAILY & OUTDOOR FRIDAY Maesteg indoor is currently under renovation at the moment so it's closed. When it's open it's a typical little that used to be seen in every small town. Sadly now so many have closer. There are your usual stalls, & yes, things might be a little more expensive but I don't mind that because using such markets is important to help the stall holders & keep our high streets indipendant traders alive. OUTDOOR MARKET This is held on a Friday, but that is dependent on the weather. If it's raining ☔ then don't bother going because chances are the only stall there will be the fruit & veg stall. However, if you want fruit or veg then make the effort as they sell beautiful produce. If you can't get to the on a Friday, then pay a visit to the green grocer on the high street. To be honest, neither isn't much more than buying at a supermarket. Personally I think it's tastier than what you buy in a supermarket. Plus it seems to last longer too. So support your local indipendant businesses before your high streets are full of derelict, empty shops. It'll be too late once they've gone because once they have gone no ones coming back. Also great family butchers and a specialist food shop with high quality farm produce.
