Perched on Earl Crag, this small Victorian stone looks like something straight out of a fairytale. It offers breathtaking panoramic over the Aire Valley and even across into the Yorkshire Dales and Lancashire on a clear day. It’s a spot to take in the natural beauty without needing to commit to a full-day hike. Once you get to the tower, you’ll find a narrow with around 39 steps leading to a viewing platform at the top. Just a heads up — it’s dark inside and there’s no handrail, so a torch or phone light is a smart idea. Watch your head near the top! The are seriously worth the climb. You get a sweeping look over the surrounding countryside, and if the weather plays nice, it feels like you’re on top of the world. The pairs perfectly with a visit to nearby Wainman’s Pinnacle, often referred to together as the “Salt and Pepper Pots” by locals. Doing both in one trip makes for a lovely circular and some photo ops. There’s no official car park, but you can usually find roadside parking near the walking paths. Just wear decent footwear, especially if it’s been raining — the area can get muddy. All in all, Lund’s is a gem. It’s small, scenic, full of local history, and ideal for anyone looking for a relaxing with a rewarding at the top. One of those places that makes you appreciate just how beautiful Yorkshire really is. I was there at 6am so quickly pulled in a passing lay-by. The are amazing. The itself is pitch black inside and full of animal fur and twigs. You'll need a torch. It's worth it. It’s been on my bucket list for some time. No time like the present to start exploring these places. Nice and quiet, amazing and couldn’t have picked a better day I parked in a lay-by on the road, where you can up the hill or continue on the road to reach Lund’s Tower. Just be careful as the two first sections I walked in didn’t have any sheep but when you through the gate at the top there are sheep in the top field. A notice is on the gate to let you know. Excellent and the are incredible. What a find, cracking walk, far reaching from the top of tower, rest of family loved it too. Highly recommend. Lund’s is perched up on Earl’s Crag situated south west of the North Yorkshire village of Sutton in Craven. The turreted stone is 11 metres tall and was built in 1887 with a stone inside built by the family of that name. Industrialist James Lund (1829-1903) bought Malsis Hall, across the valley from Earl Crag, in around 1860 and soon after replaced the house there with a vast mansion in the very latest Italianate style. The was built as a monument and as an eye-catcher from the mansion grounds. The is open all year round and you can the 39 steps to the top but take care. Fantastic around the little country lanes and very quiet too. It's a surprise that you can the winding to enjoy which are better still from the top! including from the top of the tower. Very easy to fall off the top of the so stay low if you want to live Really lovely place with stunning views... I would highly recommend to visit, if you are in the area.. You can also the tower, which is great! Very narrow and dark, so make sure you have a torch or phone with you. We agree with what others have said — pull out the flashlight on your cell for the and watch your step — especially at the top so you don’t fall through the hole for the stairs!
