This which is now situated in the Shire's Shopping Centre is the original old mill building..It covers a 1,000 years of the town's history...It is spread over two floors with plenty to see...As you can imagine being an old mill there are lots of exhibits relating to the trade,with several old historic looms and machines used back in the Victorian times...It was part of the west country's high quality woollen and cloth trade... It's packed with lots of interesting displays and videos to tell you about the town's history.. There is also a nice little gift shop on sit..Well worth a visit to have a look around...👍 Lovely small upstairs inside the Shopping Centre. Is free to enter and has some interesting items, especially with regards to the towns past manufacturing. Definitely worth a visit if you need a rest from Shopping 😁 If your interested in Trowbridge and it's past or about in general, this is a great place to visit. There are some interactive stand like you can pull wool and other parts of the change on a semi regular basis. There are also classes for kids and adults here like learning to knit. We have come here a few times as it's in the Shires and is free entry but they welcome donations Great little spread over two floors, showing the of the town. Plenty of things to keep little ones entertained and entry is free. Fascinating of cloth and weaving. Well set out museum. Impressive collection. Mixed on the staff. Some good. Others from out of the area a bit derogatory about the town. Felt unnecessary A very well run, small full of lovely, well displayed items. Great for children to learn a bit of local history! Lovely lot of shops under one roof, eateries, even fruit & veg stall at one end, good parking all around here. Good disabled access. Only thing that was quite unbearable, I visited on a sunny day & there was no air in there, so the height of summer would be impossible! Glass roof, that had lots of electric glass panels that open, were in fact all closed , had to leave after a short time, only found one bench in the whole of the place! Probably to force you into one of the cafe's, could be better. Brilliant hour or so out at a free attraction. Loads of hands on fun and learning for kids. Clean, tidy, helpful staff. Definitely recommend The now has two floors of exhibits (although seemed to me to have less on display than previously, maybe because it's less dark and cluttered and more open). It also has plenty of toilets on each floor, as well as rooms for things like windmill making classes, my granddaughter very much enjoyed this as did I. There were tables for refreshments, not quite sure if any were available or maybe school parties bring their own. Interesting views from the windows too. Great local museum, with impressive wool/fabric machinery. Well presented.
